  • boxers talking about other boxers

i am just watching the thrilla in manilla documentary

a part of it talks to larry holmes, where Larry says

"ali has done alot for boxing, but in terms of Boxing skills he was severly overated as a boxer. he punched like a butterfly...."

i found this quite interesting, does anyone else have other quotes of boxers discussing other boxers, not just small things like before a fight but after a fight.

    thanks

Archie Moore after his fight with Rocky Marciano:

Media: 'What do you think is his best punch? What one hurt the most?'

Moore: "All of them. Every single one"
    ----------------------------------------
Ali, after Sonny Liston knocked out Floyyd Patterson in their rematch. He jumped into the ring and grabbed the mic:

"See that UGLY bear? He is just a big ugly bear and I am gonna WHUP him! I am gonna knock him out! I am the GREATEST. I am the Prettiest"

"I'm gonna step into the ring, gonna look just like a BEAUTUFUL MOVIE STAR. Then I am gonna hit him with my machine gun left jab, and my Bazooka right cross"

Such a humble man. (He did the deed though)

One of my Favorites is Evander Holyfield after he beat up Mike Tyson: "First, I want to thank my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for allowing me this victory"

    I like that

Henry Armstrong, described as 'The Ghost With a Hammer in His Hand"

Joe Louis: before his fight with Max Schmeling: "I am going to represent my race. The HUMAN race."

"I will let my fists do my talking"
      ------------------------------------------

I'm going RABBIT HUNTING. (Ali, before his fight with the aging Floyyd Patterson.)
      ------------------------------------------------
One quote I WISH the loser of a fight would say once in a while. "He beat me fair and square" Instead they blame the ref, the judges, or whatever.
      ------------------------------------------------------------------
George Forman age 35. "I am retiring'
Age 40. I am retiring from boxing.
Age 50, "I am getting too old for this stuff"

Presently, "I might fight again, I think I can still do it"

George, Please come in under 240.

What's he now, 59? Nice guy though. Ya gotta like George Forman

As for Ali, I can't stand the jerk. Met him twice. Nothng to do with that. He calls Chuvalo the washer woman, Patterson the rabbit, etc etc. No respect for anyone. Can't stand braggarts. Refused to serve his country, like he would ever see active Combat.

Joe Louis: greatest HW of all time. Boxed something like 14 exh fights when he served in the armed forces.

Ali: Greatest chump of all time

Ali never threw an uppercut, and never went to the body. Great left jab, fast right X and super footwork. Big mouth, lousy actor.

Don King: Most successful thug turned manager

the Hiltons in Que Canada. A--holes. wife beaters and criminals
