  • The death of Vernon Forrest

Vernon Forrest One of True Good Guys -- FanHouse

Given how so many sports figure love to hang around strip clubs and are generally more concerned with their own comfort, this was a man who thought "outside of the box" and tried to do something radical by helping the most vulnerable of our society: children with special needs. Vernon deserves to be remembered, not just as a fighter who beat Mosley twice, probably when Shane was on steroids, but because of his character, and how he lived his life, helping others. The boxing world has lost yet another legend.

This was truly awful and a great lost to boxing and humanity.

Not many people knew that Forrest was a humanitarian that worked with mentally challenged children for years. He along with his partner Ki Toy Johnson created the organization "Destiny's Child" to help and facilitate programs for special needs children.

His wins over Mosley were legendary, and his second loss to Mayorga was a fluke. Still he perservered and became champion again. He was a true talent and a gentleman in and out of the ring.

What a way for someone like him to die. To be car jacked and shot.

They got one of the great ones.

Sad indeed... I understand HE pulled his gun first and fired into his own car before they shot him in the head....

Sounds like he could have used a few lessons in RBSD, eh?

I don't know all about that. The man was a good dude and I'm not going to bring that bullshit to a thread meant to mourn him.

There is a lesson in there for us. A way to live and a way to die.

Take from it what you wish.

My sincere condolences have already been sent.
