The Right Cross
OK, it is difficult to do in words (with no pictures) but here goes.
Imagine you are in a boxing stance with your left side forwards. Your right hand should be up by the right hand side of your face, protecting the jaw.
The initial movement comes from the feet, where you step into the direction of the punch slightly. Then your hips turn in the same direction (for this punch it would be in a counter clock-wise motion), then the same with your shoulders. At the last moment your hand whips out striking your opponent in the jaw. All these movements occur almost simultaneously, providing a whipping action. Do allow your fist to follow through the target before returning to the side of your own face.
The punch is called a cross as, looking from above, it wil start from your right hand side, travel diagonally forwards, ending up on your opponents right hand side as you follow through with your hit. His right, of course, is your left, so the movement of the fist moves across your front.
Make sense? Hope so. The punch is one of the most powerful. Don't forget to relax as much as you can to help produce that all important acceleration.
