I am also wondering if this is the right sport for me to choose and i was wondering if people can tell me what they think. I'm 5 10" 180 pounds the reason for boxing as my choice was bc i have big powerful legs(easily benchign 400pounds) and incredible areobic fitness, the reason i retracted away from the other martial arts was due to my low leg flexability even with streching for years and i felt boxing seemed to be suiting me the best. If anyone could throw out some input it would be appreciated

Being in excellent shape is a definite asset in boxing. Strong legs will help, ado you have alot of muscular endurance as well? Work with alot of body weight exercises to see how quickly you tire.
Have you boxed yet, or have decided to begin?
If you haven't started yet, the one thing I will say, is to realize you ARE GOING TO GET HIT! Alot of people I have seen look past this and just start. Then they get in the ring, and when they get hit for the first time, they don't know what to do.
Boxing requires alot of work to become good at it. It is more than punching. It is called the sweet science for a reason. Go to a gym and check it out.

Thanks for the info, never thought of it that way, i guess i shouldve stated that its more for technique and fitness than ring fighting. Boxing improves speed and movemnt ability and after reading some other posts ive noticed can be used as a quite practical means fo self defence if you dotn hit the hard areas with a closed fist. Boxing and martial arts have always fascinated me and im just looking into what is right for me. Happy Thanksgiving to any Canadians here, im going up north for the weekend YAAAAAA

Been off and on for just over a year and a half. I have always been into boxing, but that is the length of my training during that time. My gym is great, they really teach us alot about all aspects of the sport. I have out in alot of time in the ring at the gym, but haven't been able to compete. Been busy lately starting my new family ( 3 month old son), and taking care of things ( gf broke her leg!). I am looking towards possibly spring for a match. From there I wanna work towards a Golden Gloves title or else the provincial title. We'll see. Our coach is a former pro and we have a few champs in the gym. Sparring with them has gone well, so we'll see how it turns out in the spring.
What about you? How long and any matches? Anyone else?
