  • What To Look for in Boxing..

    Sup-

I was just wondering about what you people would advise that I look for in a boxing club. There's this place thats real expensive and doubles as a weight and fitness facility. They got a boxing ring in the back with an assortment of heavy bags- talking about they give boxin' "lessons" n' junk. I'm about to go for it since they have multiple schools around the city... but I wanna know what I should look for. I know that one guy said that he has something like a 100-5 amateur record which is excellent- but other than that I dunno how I can see if their line of clubs are legit or not.

    Thanx

I'll give ya what help I can. First of all, go there and take a look around. Do they have heavybags, speed bags, double end bags, medicine balls, mirrors, cardio equipment? A good gym usually has all of that. Second, is there anyone using the ring that they have when you go there? Are the coaches out working with the fighters or is everyone training on their own? An expensive gym means dink all. Our gym is in the middle of downtown, in a rundown bulding above a pawnshop. Mind if I ask why you want to box? Fitness, self defense or competition?

      Why I'll be Boxing..

Thanks for your reply Binski. I wanna box right now for self-defense above all things. Thats number one... however after I've aquried some skills and power and I think I'd be able to handle myself or whatever-- Ima try and compete. But self-defense is what I wanna put first.

If you want to train for self defense, then train like your going to compete. When I say this, I mean to train as hard as you would to compete. Hope you find a good gym.

          Most boxing clubs..

          Break it down like this..

when i joined a boxing gym.. and told them i wanted to improve my skills for mma .. they were cool but didn't put too much work in me because they are looking to turn their fighter into pro's. most boxing clubs.. you have to be serious about boxing and wanna box. i got declined at a few gyms because they said they only train those who want to be serious about a carreer in boxing or wanna be an amatuer..

          i am not into boxing..

i love muay thai.. but i took boxing to workin on my hands more. ...

but muay thai is where my hearts at..
