OK, I'm almost 16, 6'1" and around 160lbs (with some flab). I would join a boxing gym, but the only ones anywhere near me are around 3 hrs away, plus i dont have money. My friends and I want to start boxingfor fun but mostly fitness. My fried has 14oz gloves, and im trying to get my mom to buy ,me a 40 lb heavybag for my b-day(i shouldnt ned any heavier). i know the basic punches because my roher in law was a boxer and he showed , me a few years ago, but he lives like 7 states away now so he cn't train us. I would really like it if you guys could help me put together a conditioning workout and a few drills the we could start out with, neither of u are really that fit.o, and another thing, is it all that neccessary to buy bag gloves or can i just use wraps. thanx for any help. great forum btw.

You should start off by getting in shape you are under weight.
I can write you a program. Start eating the right nutrition. And read as much as you can on boxing. You need at LEAST a 100lb bag unless youre gonna be fightng 6 year olds.

Do you have any gear? Bench, weights, etc. Your bag should be around you opponents size and weight. When a good punch is thrown it penetrates, dosent push the bag.

A good stretch, alot of push ups and crunches and asome running should get you into shape. I would go with a heavier bag then a 40 pounder if you can get one and bag gloves are also helpfull. If you and your friend are going to spar I would recomend a mouth piece and some head gear so you dont get hurt.
You might want to watch some boxing events as well so you can learn how to move. Boxing isnt just throwing punches and danceing around. you need to learn the fients dodges and blocks to really get good at it.
              I wish you luck

Allright, first take care of of that rotator. Get some rehab. You can do rehab at hom, but it's better if you go to a professional. Any ways, you can warm your shoulder up with light weights of any shoulder exercise. Once your comfortable with the weight, begin a total body weight routine. The weights should help you build up your strength. If you can, get a minimum 50 pound heavy bag, but you should go heavier up to 100. Because, think about it, as you get stronger, you're going to want to a heavier bag to pound. A lighter bag is good if you can make it sway, and get out of the way is it's coming towards you.

Get a skipping rope. and it would be good idea to start running and stretching alot. at first run for 2-3 miles every other day (e.g mon wend, fri) and stretch every morning ( If you have a change, get a book called "dynamic stretching and kicking" by Bill Wallace).
And remember to start gently. I made the mistake of starting with too hard program and i started to have problems with my shoulders.

who needs a punching bag just have one of your friends stand in front of you and then you just punch him. or when you are punching him have him try to evade your punches. jog, pushups, eat alot of protein tuna, eggs, milk, ect. cruches, and so on. really the only thing you need is the human body. if you are soloing shadow box.

A punching bag will help develop power you can;t develop with anything else. A heavy bag will develop functional power. You can also develop power with wegiht training. If you want, I'll let you in on some routines.
