Re: punch speed drills
"I don't like the idea of punching with weights because it makes you form bad habbits, and its hell on your rotator cuffs. But using big 16 or 20 (if you can find them) oz. gloves on certain excercises (like the heavy bag) are going to make your hands feel like they are flying later. "Originally posted by smiley

Shadow boxing itself trains your balance. Because in a real fight or boxing fight, you will inevitably miss your target from time to time. Shadow boxing trains your balance for those times so that you won't take a swing, miss everything and go way out of your attack or defense stance and be open to all kins of counter.

For speed:
much practice, in the form of: shadowboxing, focus mitts, heavy bag, whatever.
The more you throw a particular technique or motion, the better your body gets at doing them. You are actually training your brain and the nervous system to send the same type of signal, over and over, and it gets much more effecient at it, including all the small little pieces that go along with it, making the entire process more streamlined, one side effect being increased speed, although, not all types of speed.
Stick training.
Speed bag.
Weight lifting.
Pylometrics.
Diet.
Proper rest.
Stretching.
General fitness.
etc..
