LOL, 56K couldn't have hit it on the nose any harder
Also, I agree with Thai, about watered down versions of TMD's. Does anyone think that the koreans used point punching during war times? That wouldn't have made TKD too effective on the battlefield, hehe If that was the case durign war times, they might as well have said, "Ok, if they come after you, scratch, slap and pull their hair, while screaming bloody murder." No offense ladies But, I think in this case, the guys skills helped him for sure. He didn't have the knife to start with, he had to mess some dude up and take it from him.
Gippy, lots of things work when you "show" them to someone. People stand their politely and say "Oooo, that's good".
But far less work on a resisting opponent. And even less work when you say "I am going to hit you now. Stop me".
I've got a video by Richard Dimitri in which he does just that, and they can't stop him! And it isn't Wing Chun patta-cake nonsense.
Like I said, I trained Wing Chun and tried two seperate instructiors. Maybe I was just unlucky. But:-
- I didn't see much of use in a real fight
- I've never seen it used in a real fight, and
- I've never even seen the principles of it used in any of the UFC / Pride / Cage fight events. I know they're not real fights. But surely some of these super dooper WC principles would be used if they were so good in practice.
I guess we have to go on the evidence of our own eyes. Would you like to outline an occasion were you have seen it used for real? No fibbin' now, ya hear?

Well, he is in jail while the authorites decide whether or not to charge him with assault or something.

While on the excessive force subject, I read in this months BB mag that a 20 yr old is facing murder charges for killing an 18 year old with a spin kick to the head. According to witnesses, the 18 yr old was trying to pick a fight with the MA, the MA backed off and landed the kick when he was attacked. I'll see if I can find the article on the net.

That's crazy stuff. All I know is we have too many damn hippies making laws If some dude tries to kick my ass, and I'm defending myself and accidentally kill him, I shouldn't be charged with murder. I believe something should happen for taking someones life, but murder in a self defense situation is ridiculous. *NOTE* not a fight situation, but a self defense situation. If I caused the fight and I killed someone lock me up, 'cuz i deserve it.

Hopefully he'll get an easy sentence. He does deserve a sentence because he is somewhat responsible; he killed someone child (whether or not the kid was an ass) and maybe could have taken it a little easier on him. But then again, that's not what you think when you're fighting. You don't know whether your opponent wants to kill you or not right?

C'mon! Four assailants armed with knives and intent on bodily harming and raping a couple of women you know personally.
So I'm thinking, "Gee, why are these guys being so mean? Did something happen in their childhood to turn them bad? After all, they were somebody's baby once. And if I take it easy on them they may see the error of their ways and never do this again in the future to some other person...some other person who may not have any way whatsoever of defending themselves... like my 76 yr. old mother, or my 11 year old niece. Yes! I can redeem them and convert them by showing kindness."
No, this guy doesn't deserve a light sentence. He deserves a thorough investigation to determine that the series of events is as he and his witness purport them to be, then he deserves a medal for making this a better, safer place for us all to live in, and finally, he deserves for the police to keep a protective eye on him to prevent any retaliation from the friends, family, etc. of the vermin he so kindly disposed of for us.
In my opinion i believe that someone who is "skilled" in a MA should be able to not kill someone when they are faced in such a position...maybe its just me but if a guy kicks a assailant in the head and kills him, he doesnt know what he is doing...
begins, when someone attacks you with intent to kill (and when they are weilding a knife, what other intent can you assume?), they have given up their right to have it "taken easy" on them. When someone is threatening to violate a female in the worst possible way, they have given up their right to have it "taken easy" on them. Yes, we all know that taking the knife from an attacker and stabbing it through his abdomen is probably going to kill him, but when there are 3 other armed attackers, you can't pu$$y foot around and not take them out as they are intending to do to you.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a concept of self-defense in a court of law.
hmmm, i c your view but it doesnt really make sense. I agree that someone who rapes a female or comes at you with a knife doesnt deserve to be taken lightly, but i didnt say that. To kill someone and to "take them lightly" are complete opposites, all i am saying is if you kill them, your not only showing that you cant controll yourself, but you are also showing that you have no respect of life. Your hollywood view isnt very valid...there are ways of disabling assailants, killing them isnt a good thing...
and there is a self defense view in a court system...its just very twisted...
