  • Shaolin Energy Raising

Does anyone have any background or knowledge of internal energy in relation to the execution or martial skills? I'm asking because I have experienced what I percieve to be a energizing feeling from my stomache chest region. I experienced this when using breathing techniques. I have practiced a couple basic methods of breath manipulation for the last 6 years. The sensation feels to me like less than half of an adrenalin dump. Also it allows me to experience a hightened kinestetic perception which is also accompanied by an ease of nerves. I don't shake or make unnececery movement in this state. But concentrating on it is difficult. I can't hold this state of mind for more than 10 minutes when I use the heavy bag. When I'm just shadow boxing I can hold it only 5 mins. But If I'm just sitting or especially lieng down I can hold it for fifteen to twenty minutes.
Anyways I have a question. I'm done talking about myself now I swear. I just wanted to know if anyone knows any good links, schools, groups, books, personal experiences, or any LOGICAL information on the matter. I have seen fighting monks do a hand gesture from waist to head then back or somthing. Im sure there is a wealth of information availble on energy raising in relation to meditaion. But I would really like to know more about how this force effects movement and power. Thanks, I'm sure no one will respond to this post execpt Thai Bri. If anyone read all this rambling thanks.

See? Someone else DID respond to the post. Personally I looked at the title and thought it was something about a Monk's erection. I only looked to see if I could get any tips for our very impotent Mods.

Your best bet is to look into internal martial art styles like Taiji, Bagua, Xingyi and meditation methods.

Good Luck. Let us know when you can levitate ala yellow bamboo...hehe.

            RE: Shaolin Breathing

Well, I am not an expert at breathing methods, however, I can tell you from personal experience. When I train in my Dojo, I get there early, go on the Dojo floor, and consentrate all my existing energy to the major muscle groups. Close your eyes, take 9-10 deep, deep breathes, and with each breathe consentrate all your energy on a major muscle group that you will use for the "x" amount of time you will train for the day. Also, it helps to train as though you are really defending yourself. Gichin Funakochi said, "The first rule to the true practice of any Martial Art, you must be deadly serious in your training." For what it's worth, I hope I helped a little. Don't be afraid to ask if you ever need more help.
