  • Can shuai chiao be an art for life?

Could somebody practice shuai chiao at an advanced age? I believe Master Chang did it well into his seventies. However, I think it would be difficult for your body to take continual punishment from its throws. Thanks in advance.

master Chang did it into his 70's so why cant others!

I think that you have the same problems with Judo - but at such an age after so much practice the falling is ok for you to deal with - you have been doing it all your life - so your body is very well prepared to keep doing it.

    Just my thoughts

    Cheers
    Chris

The rules for shuai jiao favor stand up grappling and getting a successfull takedown. You can grab the legs, kick and hit (with an open hand?) but from what I've read the striking supplements the takedown because points are only awarded based on how high and hard you slam your opponent into the mat.

Check out Matt Furey's site as well.

"Shuai Jiao" is the Chinese word for "wrestling".
