  • weight training and kung fu taich good bad??

    I had a guy who was training for a while tell me its not good to weight train and practice long fist(Im also studying tai chi) I would like to hear what your thoughts and experiences on this. I just want to increase muscle endurance and strength and im thinking to myself maybe spending an hour at the gym 3 times a week is too much along with practicing kung fu and tai chi. What r your experiences about this?

    no. taichi is about relaxation. u aren't supposed to get tired doing it. all the moves are supposed to flow, and be comfortable. putting weights on defeats the purpose. not a good idea. sure since ur moving slow it would increase muscle indurance, but....well..it's not what taichi is about. the moves are slow to help u gain "muscle memory" that means when practiced slowly, u will be faster in actual application. as a practioner of the yang style, i wouldn't put weights on. not what tai chi is about. what u do in ur spare time is ur thing,but in a taichi school, u won't see ur sifu wearing any weights and if u do, then u need to change schools

      I think he was talking about lifting weights, not wearing weights during taichiquan practice!

        oh really?..oh dangit..sorry bout that.
        ok..well keep what i said in mind earlier, but lifting weights while doing taichi should be fine.i don't see a problem. u should lift weights anyway

          I dont see an issue with mixing the two.
