actually bruce said he didn't want jkd to be "this" style or "that" style
meaning it was universal
not chinese,(or indian) and therefore not kung fu
he even said he didn't want it to be a form of kung fu

like whales as an animal found in planet Earth....
while whales is considered as a Mammal Category ... yet ... it's structure is like those of Fish.........
as JKD is a universal form of martial arts, but .... it's structure is KungFu Category (Modified/Revised WingChun)
bRUCES INTERPRETATION OF jeet kune do had a good base in wing chun but it would be different for different people depending on what suits them.Thats what JKD is take from styles YOU find most use full. This could be boxing, muay thai and wrestling if thats what works 4 you.

exactly
so therefore is not a style of kung fu, or a style period!

but it is still classified as a modified wingchun cause all of the theories and aspects of JKD has a similarities within KungFu....... but...... JKD is an extremely far if compare to Karate, TKD, (all non-kungfu)
for a several reasons:
1. using of leading body weapons......
2. most of the training of JKD is compatible to wingchun - like JKD Wooden Dummy......
3. etc......
Note:
and besides ...... JKD is only a movie martial arts but his actual/streetfight is wingChun.....
Bruce Lee is extremely wise when it comes to martial arts..... bruce lee fools you a lot.....
even me... i show up my TaiChi and AngKa (for my opponent to think that my art is suited in a long distance fights) but when i attacked my opponent i usually in a closed distance ( using NgoChoKun, WingChun, and ChiDianBun)

i too really fooled my opponent
ok u have boxing off the lead,i've seen karate off the lead, and even some kempo, but those aren't kung fu...... bruces fighting art wasn't "modified" wing chun. it was his belief, his own brand of thinking that was his jkd! jkd doesn't have a wooden dummy! dummy! if it did that means he trained in styleized(sp?) moves! remember he was totally against that! why would he train wooden dummy for then?
and i don't think number 3 qualifies as a reason.....
A person who is said to be proficient in the arts is like a fool. Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing, he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient. - Hagarkure
Actually, JKD does have and Dummy. I have to look but I am almost positive that james lee created it for Bruce from Bruce's directions (disclaimer: this does not mean I agree with Sherwic)
A jab in boxing is off the leading hand so according to you its also kung fu?
This is a very good question.....
all the boxing moves, muay thai moves, tkd, bjj, etc., are all found in KungFu....
but.....
most of the hand / feet attacks of KungFu is not found in boxing, muay thai, tkd, bjj, etc.........
Note:
in order for you to convinced that all of the non-kungfu attacks is found in KungFu.... here are the following D's to put in mind when practice:
1. Dedication
2. Devotion
3. Deligent
4. Determination
5. Defense
and the last is....
6. Destruction
from time to time, you all will truely understand and convinced..... practice it regularly / gradually (KungFu) within your heart

Here's a simple formula:
Monkey = JKD
Human = KungFu
Fish = Non-kungfu martial arts
now... Human is not a monkey but it has the resemblance of a monkey
while.... Human is a far more error when compare to a fish as well as Monkey is also a far more error when compare to a fish
why?
cause Monkey and Humans have the same 2legs, 2arms, hairly, breastfeeding, can walk with their feet, etc......

u do know that just because kung fu is one of the most ancient arts there are doesn't mean everything stems from it. i don't think some guy from thailand, went to china, learned some kung fu, and took back what he knew, and made muay thai, cuz i haven't seen anything even close to resembling muay thai in any kung fu....unless san shou is a form of kung fu that is....so what about pankeraton(sp?) wasn't that started in greece? i know for sure that it didn't start in india(that's where kung fu originated from) so just because it's old, doesn't mean everything is some form of kung fu. now don't get me wrong, i would love to do more forms of kung fu, but to argue that it is best is just silly.

You have a very good reply but.....
i have a question:
why is it that in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Boxing, KickBoxing, MuayThai, Savate - are all they have a common type of hand and feet attacks which i really hate to see, and that is:
1. RoundHouse Kick
2. Side Kick
3. Frontal Kick
4. Lung & Reverse Punch (straight punch from shoulder up to fist)
5. Back Fist
6. UpperCut Punch
7. Cross Punch
8. RoundHouse Punch
9. Elbows Strikes
10. Hook Punch
11. etc......
note:
you know? from no. 1 up to no. 11 - this is the most common types of stupid hand attacks, by this kind of attacks - this is classified as "A FIST IS JUST A FIST AND NOTHING MORE" an attack is only an attack and it could not be converted scientifically.
that no. 1 up to no. 11 is only considered as "Basic Attacks" and it is not considered as medium or advanced - and since it is only basic, true that it is also easy to block, easy to neutralize, easy to use force against force, easy to deflect, etc.........
Note:
since non-kungfu martial arts are only basics then how can they understand Kungfu's advanced moves????? but KungFu really understand all non-kungfu's moves......
like.....
how can an elementary grade school pupil can understand the advanced writings of the Professional College Degree Students??????? but Professional College Degree Students really understand all Elementary Grade School Pupil's writings........
Note:
i can enumerate plenty of Hand/Feet Effective Hand Attacks of KungFu that are not found in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Boxing, KickBoxing, MuayThai, Savate......
but all of the Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Boxing, KickBoxing, MuayThai, Savate attacks are always found in KungFu..........
