Shaolin does not really exist at shaolin anymore which is kinda strange!

But the government have kinda cashed in on the tourist trap and set up a bunch of competetive wu shu schools in the area.

What are you looking for from your training?

      What type of fighting?

      etc etc

I may be able to point you to some internal arts masters.

      regards
      Chris

I'm not really specific about any one style, i'm looking for a school that trains students hard. you say that there's no shaolin at shaolin anymore, then hopefully something close to it.

          thanx.

There is a Southern Shaolin in Putian, Fujian. It is home of Wuzuquan (Ngo Cho Kun). The style is efficient, brutal, and hard. It is far from elegant, but quite lethal. You can search on the net for the info, or users such as Konghan and Yentao can also help you.

yeah it is pretty expensive, but the oppotunity is too good to pass up! i had to get a student line of credit to pay for it.

                good luck.

4500 US for a year of room/board and training is not that expensive really. I was really seriously looking into this school but then things started coming up like me and school and actually doing something with my life lol. I came to the point that after almost 2 years of sitting on my ass I needed to do something with a future.

I found the easiest way out of that lol. I am starting to work in the alberta oil fields in september. Lots of money and I get tons of time off to train. Hopefully I get to thailand or china sometime this year or next.

I just got back from China and I discovered a small kung fu temple in the mountains of Dali. I was just passing through the town with my finacee and the locals informed me about it. The monks were really great and let me practice with them. Dali is a hotspot for westerners so not speaking mandarin is not much of a problem. Anybody is welcome to go and stay at the temple and the price is about $30us a month. It's called the WuWei temple and it is super non-commercial.
Let me know if you are interested and I will give you some more information.

Were you there for Spring Festival? Dali is pretty wild during that time.

Did you happen to get down to Ruili when you were there? I have some kick-ass grub there back in the mid-90's.

Not, for spring festival, right before. I was in Kunming for New Year though. It was a blast. I should have researched the festivities more because waking up to what I thought was gun shots outside my window scared the hell outta me. It was just children with fire crackers and thats the only time the goverment allows them to use them. My finacee is from Kunming so she thought nothing of it but my heart was racing!
Nah, didnt make it to Ruili. I spent most of my time in Shanghi and Kunming. Food was good there...just very very different.
