  • Starting Chinese Taoist (Internal) Martial Arts

I found this great school, which you can see here: http://www.ctmaa.com/

Anyway, I'm joining the school because I'm really interested in Chinese martial arts, as opposed to TKD or Karate.

I observed the school today, and they did Wu Dang and Hsing Yi today. I'm very impressed with the Master, he was very involved with the class and educated me on some of the arts they teach there. He is also a bit older yet very athletic, so he has a lot of experience. So anyway, it's definetly not a McDojo, as you wouldn't be starting an internal Chinese martial art school to take people's money, since no one knows about them.

Anyway, I have the choice of taking:

    Yang and Chen Tai Chi
    Wu Dang
    Hsing Yi
    Ba Kua

I could take 1 or even all of them if I wanted to. The base price per month is $100 for 3 1 hour classes per week, and if you take another art you get 3 more hours a week for only $30 more. Sounds like a good deal to me.

But I figure since I'm starting out, it would be better to focus on one art. The problem is, which one do I do first? I'm leaning towards Ba Kua first, and then Hsing Yi. I've heard a lot about Ba Kua, and it sounds very interesting. Would anyone advise against taking it first? I've been doing Ju-Jitsu/Judo for 7 years, Mixed-Martial Arts, and TKD.

If your looking to get into the health, discipline and culture side of martial arts then go for it.

Let me know when they teach you how to do this...
