  • How Are Wushu People So Strong???

Okay, I am referring to performance wushu, the high, flashy, acrobatic Chinese martial-performance art that is based off of traditional Chinese martial arts. Anyways, my question is, how do the wushu people develop like such strong legs?? Does anyone know what exercises they do??? Because they are not big muscled, and yet at a wushu demonstration yesterday, the one girl squatted down all the way on one leg, and then wrapped her other free leg around her body (it's hard to describe). Now I know one doesn't need big muscles to have strong muscles, but still, I am just wondering if anyone knows what exericises the wushu people do to develop that type of extreme leg strength.

Your stances are low, so you get good workouts from holding your body up in a low position. Try holding a horse stance for a while, and you'll see why.

Actually this is physically false. The amount of of force the nueroskeletal muscles in your leg are able to exert impulsively falls off dramatically as you lower your horse stance.

Wushu people get their jumping ability the same way figure skaters do:
lightweight, with less upperbody muscular mass (although don't get me wrong, pretty much everyone on a nationally competitive wushu team in China would score a perfect score on the Marine Corps. physical fitness exam), and a lot of plyometric lower body training, especially in combination with flexibility training. This results in more rapid muscle growth with a "built in" wider range of motion.

So the moral of the story is: Do anarobic weightlifting and plyometrics, but also stretch a lot. This is the secret to a lot of the famed "Air Attack" programs that increase your vertical leap by as much as 20 inches in a matter of monthes. It is more than possible; I undertook one of these programs a long time ago in high school in order to jump higher for Track and Field, and was able to grab onto a basketball rim although I was only about 5'8'' at the time. There're only two secrets in explosive strength: hard work and diversified training routines.

we run, many pushups, situps, wierd back exersises, backwards situps, lots and lots of stretching, frog jumps, ly down on stcked mats on your back and either kick like your swimming or kick both feet up at the same time while another person pushes down your feet, and practice holding your stances as low as you can, and for legs- run then jump of your right foot and bring up your left knee to push your self higher.
