If Holy Man said that the ultimate goal in gung fu is to become a god....well, Holy Man sounds like an ass. Now if Holy Man said the ultimate goal is "self perfection," then I could agree with that. For me, it's just for health, self defense, and self refinement.

In the Eastern mind, "self perfection," is godhood. Only in the west do we have this delimna. Just like -- trying to do your absolute best at something -- is considered a spiritual practice; and what you do often -- rituals -- are considered religion (this makes regular kung fu practise a religion). In the west, religion is a belief system only but in the east it is more.
