Do you not think it strange that a modern world your shaolin temple only now allows teaching of "foreigners"? Such bigotry is an embarasment.

Also it seems contradictory to refer to those who study in the present day shaolin temple as monks. The shaolin temple in mainland China has been run under the iron fist of the communist party for decades! It is no longer the shaolin temple renouned centuries ago. It is only a training ground for the Beijing Circus. Your so called "sky position" would not be very effective against a real grappler. Your master would embarass himself in ufc and bring shame on his so-called shaolin heritage. I saw your masters website, and if that is what his skill is like then people like Tito Ortiz would hurt him real bad.

I'm sorry but your master seems like a joke. If he is Chinese then I weep for my culture.

Your neighbourhood shaolin monk

I liked the TV comercial where he jumps on the rock, strikes a fancy pose, and glares manacingly into the camera. That's pretty cheesy. Right out of a 1970's Hong Kong movie. He looks like a real monk though, after all he does have a shaved head How many real monks perform for an audience on stage in what looks like a hotel in Vagas?

He would get his butt handed to him in UFC. All his acrobatics won't help him if Gracie got ahold of him. His cart wheels, summersaults and other circus tricks are quite entertaining. His baton-twirling skills are quite good, but my younger sister who leads a marching band is much better.

I am a big fan of Royce Gracie and Rickson Gracie and I have read their interviews and they both admit street fighting is a whole lot different from UFC/Pride FC. But whether Royce can beat my master is not something we can say. They are both determined and amazing martial artist and it would be nice to see my master fight him. Whether Brazilian Jujitsu can beat Kung Fu is also a matter of perception. A martial art doesn’t define itself, only the martial artist does. And Rickson is an extremely humble martial artist which is the reason why I am a big fan of him. He would never agree he is the toughest in the world; he would only say I am a Jujitsu practitioner and I train hard in my art. (Go check his website for his full interview).

Comment on the Aerobatic Techniques
If you are a MMA artist then you would probably agree the term being “well rounded” In a fight you are often faced with unpredictable circumstances. So in my place we consider a martial artist should be able to fight in a stand, ground and sky position. I don’t think I need to explain ground and stand position. Sky position usually involves, shifting positions which jumping, high kicking (different from TKD!) and jump grappling techniques.

Whether my master is a fake monk (I don’t care)
I have done enough research around my area and I am happy with my current master. I am not a closed minded practitioner and I don’t treat my master’s word as holy gospels.

Comments on the commercial
Yes I totally agree the commercial sucks. My master has lived in the temples since 8 and was sent out by Shaolin temple when he was 30 years old. He doesn’t have any marketing sense or knowledge. I hope no one here would be dumb enough to trust commercials. I joined his place because my friend introduced me to him and I tried out once and I loved it.

Btw I only know there are real monks teaching in New York, Chicago and Vancouver in the North America region.

In no way I am trying to offend you but I hope you would respect all martial arts and martial artist. (Not only kung fu)

I dont know where you are, but the temple kung fu near edinburgh, is Lau Gar. I have had dealing with them in the past, and dont have any bad words. I can only ask what you want to achieve, thats the best thing for choosing an MA?. For instence, do a bit of kickboxing to get the blood pumping, and battle your fears and do a bit of kung fu, like you say. Or if you want someothing more study Ninjitsu, you learn how to slit peoples throats, stealthy movement, and lockpicking anlong with military kickboxing etc. Very unorthadox, but it is the noname, no art system. I, along with my collegues will be running a seminar in Edinburgh in the new year, March. We will be working through everything, from Ninjitsu, Kempo and Thai Boxing. We have studied various arts, and our instructors are well know. Give me a pm if your interested, we run a full-time gym in edinburgh so If anyopne is interested in training, let me know.

It is also very refreshing for us to finally have the Studios back running the way they were originally intended to. It hasn't been a easy road to recovery but it is starting to become a very rewarding one...the best way to describe it all probably comes from Mr. Crossman, he coined it the "New Old Way".

Mr. Crossman would absolutly look forward to a visit at the new Calgary location at 7730 MacLeod Trail SE. The coffee pot is always on!

I would just like to say that although I have moved on from TKF for about 4-5 years now, I am very proud of you guys for getting back on track.

The shrouded mystery and money-grabbing tactics were belittling what you had to offer. GM Simon was a very well known karateka back in his day who also learned some Kung-Fu. If only during my time at the club in south Calgary had I learned of the true origins of my martial art, I may have stayed.

People like Mr. Thistleton, Dezotel(sp?), Crossman, Piercy (and others that have eluded my mind) made my training worth-while. I generally have good memories of being pushed to my limits and me challenging my own by these gentlemen. If it wasn't for the hard work these people put in to my during my teenage years - I know I would have ended up in trouble going nowhere in life.

So thanks for the good times and memories...and it's really good to see good people running the show again.

All the best in the future. Maybe I could pop down sometime to say hi?

As you mayknow there is no such thing as white tiger kung fu.
But some masters have made their own style of "Tiger Kungfu".
Temple kungfu is where you dedicate your time in a temple to Kung fu or any other martial arts

actually, the martial art that you are speaking of is incorectly stated, it is called shaolin kung fu. As for the temple part of it, the shaolin monks are the general practicioners of this art- they live their lives in training, and contribute to their "school" (temple). This is noted to infer to you as a corection.

I have heard alot about this guy and he doesn't look to good he was taught by a shaolin monk for a while then came over to north america, opened a school and called himself a master. I suggest you dont go. By the way where do you live.
