  • ''Many traditional arts aren't designed to handle a aggressive puncher. Most traditionalists try to adapt their techniques to work against punching, but when these basic techniques were invented, western style punching, with its combos and angles of punching, wasn't around.''

Are u saying that kung-fu cant match against boxing?

        • No

No MA fan, I'm not making any specifics statements about which art is better between kung-fu or boxing. I'm saying (for the 2nd time) that western style boxing wasn't around when kung-fu was first being developed. Therefore, kung-fu techniques weren't origionally designed to defend against an aggressive puncher. As far as who would win in a fight, it depends on the skill of the fighters.

Ever hear of chin na? Chin na is one of the few aspects of Chinese martial arts I really enjoy as to be quite honest a lot of it is just plain mean. They have some very damaging locks and holds, and good defenses against weapons. Against multiple attackers it's far from the first thing you'd want to know, but in a one-on-one situation you'll definitely have an extreme advantage. A lot of the techniques are fairly easy to learn too once you have knowledge of the basics of joints and how they move, and have a decent background in grappling and small-joint manipulation.

Admittedly all I have is several books on the subject, but my friends and I often work on techniques from those books and when we have the time do stress training with those and other aspects of martial techniques (we don't wear the huge weird-looking head either, just regular headgear).

            • Jubaji, do you know anything at all? Broadsword has brought up some good points and you seem to have a huge lack of knowledge on them and martial arts. Please do some sort of research before you put another pitiful, contemptible comment on any of the message boards on this site.

See, this is the kind of crap that doesn't need to be put on the message boards. I have already sent an administrative complaint against you that will probably warn\ban you so stop putting bad messages up or you'll only help my case.

Jeez man, people pit animals against each other for fights, same as they have dog fighting, the Koreans pitted lions against tigers (importing them both). The Mexicans used to pit grizzly bears they brought in against bulls, then they pitted a male lion aganst the bear because the bulls lost so much (the lion severely lost to the bear too; there aren't too many mammals that can bring down a grizzly). This is mainly because the grizzly weighs about 400-500 pounds more then the lion, and a cat has light, hollow bones, whereas a grizzly has heavy, thick bones, so the lion never stood a chance really. The grizzly killed it with one swipe. The lion was known for charging bravely out at the bear, as it was the most ferocious lion they could find, however.

What happened though was the same with the tiger and the lion. People stopped betting on the tiger because it lost so much, so the Koreans decided to search the globe for a better tiger (or at least a better cat) that could match the lion. They found this in the Bengal tiger, which they said had a ferociousness in it that was truly frightening in comparison to the standard tigers they were using. So they brought in the Bengal.

Animal fighting is nothing new though man; of course they researched these things, money rode on them. That was also part of the fun of the gambling to it.

                            • jubaji, you mind telling me WHY that is all baloney?? All you have done is say I am full of it, yet have given nothing refutable. You seem to already realize you've made an idiot of yourself in front of most everyone, you just don't really know what to do about it now.

Facts are facts. Get yours straight man.
