  • Basic Hsing I vid

my teacher applying some basic Hsing I on a fellow student.

Basic stuff really and from an instructional VCD so it is not real speed for the most part.

Those hits where he hardly looks like he's touching him are where his structure is very solid and he is drilling through the opponent. Add to that the Phoenix Eye Fist hand form and it is like having a chissle driven into your muscle.

He applied this to me 3 weeks ago hitting me right on the nipple - i still have a large bruise!

I will be putting up alot more in the way of Internal Arts Application for everyone to have a look at. Some knife work, some real tai chi application, some group attacks, etc.

    Cheers
    Chris

Could you tell me what branch of Xingyi is this? It looks like your teacher using a hard/soft jin than a pure internal (soft) jin. Very interesting.

this is hebei style hsing i and is a very pure lineage.

Not sure what you mean by hard jin - soft internal jin.

Hsing i is not a soft stle - the classics say that you should feel soft on the inside but like steel on the outside - opposite to tai chi.

Alex is demonstrating the five fists as variations here - for an instructional VCD. he has REAL internal power (Tendon control, structure, alignment etc.)- I think there is a common and wholey unfounded view in the west that Internal martial arts should look very soft when applied - these arts were the Apex of the chinese fighting arts and were / are used by Bodyguards for effective close quarter combat - how they are practiced by the majority today doesnt reflect this.

Alex learned from some very traditional masters - one of whom (a tai chi master) was a main bodyguard for the president of Taiwan. These guys had to apply there art hard and fast.

What appears to be going on from the outside and what IS Going on - are two very differernt things!

          Cheers

"the classics say that you should feel soft on the inside but like steel on the outside "

That's exactly what soft/hard fa jin is .
The power delivery he shows is quite good. It seems that he has spent some years training in it.

            Could you post some more?

Any idea where we can find some Ba Gua / Pa Kua video clips? I've always been fascinated by the art but haven't ever seen it in action.

                          here are some further clips.

Not realtime combat stuff yet - just further stuff from instructional VCD's - still compiling the combat application stuff at the moment.

Some fast work, but not quite free form.

                            Nice clips.

It seems that he is more a Xingyi expert than anything else. Nothing wrong with that. He is more soft/hard like in Xingyi than purely soft as in Bagua or in Taiji. I see some similarities in his theories and movements with what I learn. I never learn Xingyi and what I learn is not even a northern style .

PS: There is a typo on the website. Below the "UK Bagua Institute" the word "traditiona" should be "traditional".

Since this guy is in the UK, I think it is worthwhile for you to check it out. I have seen better masters than this gentleman (no offense, Chris), but he is surely not a "fake teacher that knows only 8 alphabets" .

I've viewed the clips and can certainly see some fast stuff going down. Much of it looks similar to what I understand to be "hard" style work, but I do concede that I may just not be understanding what I am seeing.

I am much less convinced by the throws, which look to be applied against the age old "step forward punch" attack that has undermined reality training the world over.....

Still I would like to know a little more.
