Kung Fu Tournaments

Is it true that kung fu tournaments (no restriction combat) was ban by the late 70's because some guy got killed? After that Lion Dance evolved out of it I think. It would be nice to bring back the true kung fu tournaments where avoiding death was a higher priority than winning however insurance premiums would be over the roof as well as all the law suits.

Yes but the best guys have died or are too old to fight using kungfu skills (Bruce Lee, Bob Wall, Jackie Chan) and some have retired from core fighting to become film stars (Jet Li, Bruce Li)

So who does this leave ?. Maybe Austin Goa can do fighting. I saw him take out 3 thugs in china town 2 years ago. They came at him at all angles and he kicked two of them in the knees and the third one he head butted and the thug fell down unconsuis.
