Is there any bak mei or yau kung mun practitioners here? It gets pretty lonely in these posts being the only type practitioner here. Now that I think about it, I feel like a specialist, like a gynacologist!
I guess you practice both arts? I've seen YKM on this website http://www.yaukungmun.com.au/ . Is that your teacher? From what i know Bak Mei is a pretty lethal martial art. Then again it should be since it's Shaolin's equal or superior am I right?

* more so YKM, there are alot of bak mei in it though

*no but I train under one of his si hings

*(bak mei)in many cases, it is considered wing chun's equal and it's brother form(wing chun being the sister). Bak mei has similarities with wing chun but used differently. It has longer and shorter capabilities than wing chun but lacks the middle that WC has, it has a higher strength attack but lacks the attacks WC has, BM is leopard/tiger style whilst WC is snake/crane style etc.To me BM and WC are like yin and yang.
As for better than shaolin, well whatever you believe WC is to shaolin is whatever you believe OK?
Well in my opinion I believe all chinese martial arts are equal and it depends on the practitioner to make it good. I've just heard a story from my Shaolin teacher that Bak Mei was at one point competing against shaolin and it was actually considered better. That was my basis for that statement. On another note though does your school have any videos they sell on training? I don't think i can learn it now since i have my hands tied with MT, Shaolin, and wanting to learn Kali. But it would be nice for future studies.

Just wanted to clarify some: In China, WC is not really considered a brother or sister art, maybe that is only in the US, who knows. Also, Bak Mei does not lack the middle as suggested and Bak Mei is not "just" Leopard and Tiger but also snake and crane and dragon. How these are used will vary much between practicioners and Bak Mei lineages. As for what is better, I guess that is all up to the practicioner and left to interpretations. Later!

This is just an opinion that is generalised by me, dont take it like a fact.
>>In China, WC is not really considered a brother or sister art, maybe that is only in the US, who knows.
**They are not bro/sis art but they did come out the same time and have very similar traits. Both arts do complement each other well.

**I never said it lacked the middle but I said it was not as powerful as WC in the middle, WC seems to dominate this field with its chi sau, though we do have similar attacks and counter attacks they tend to be faster. It is true that they have 5 animal form in it and even a form devoted to it.The last form (marng fu churt lum) summarises the whole art as leopard/tiger psychologically and physically.
Bak Mei is a rare style, one of the few kung fu systems that has my respect. But, I'm basing my opinion on how the bak mei sifu I know teaches it. Sifu Luo of the White Dragon Kung Fu Academy gives awesome instruction and training. You can look up his website at www.undergroundkungfu.com

Gee that guy is buff for a chinese guy! Anyway theres alot more bak mei practitioners than you think there are- www.pakmei.org the HQ of chinese pak mei in hong kong. There are also a spinoff such as yau kung mun created by ha hon hung under the teachings of CLC and various other bak mei variants. The only one i dont trust is Eddy Chongs's Bak mei and wing chun, other than that, most are pretty good.
