"Be alert. Be alive in the moment. Don’t imagine anyone who comes and asks you to ‘push’ or ‘spar’ will keep to a format, or even stay barehanded" my ba gua teacher !!
The guy looked somewhat skilled but the clip didn't really show much, the attackers attacked as slow as my granny. And why is the guy always looking at the ground when he's practicing?

yeh - he is very skilled. I have gone at him full boar and met nothing but pain!
This is taken from the instructional VCD that Alex sells. the application work is more to give an 'Idea' of the various elements of Xing Yi rather than to show free / real fighting.
He is looking at the ground because the focus of training these movements is to connect the tendons, rotate the dan tien, massage the organs, and all the other many things that they train. The focus may be on the internal workings of the body for these excersises not on fighting practice hence the introspective looking inward.
This is explained in the VCD in more depth.
Once you can issue power in a good way from these five basic movements or elements, you can start fighting with them and the other guy is in trouble, that is the focus of this video.
Alex may bring out a more street orientated tape soon. I have talked with him about it. He has been in many encounters in asia and knows the deal with weaponry work and street fighting so it would be good to get his information down on tape.
I have trained Muay Thai, Karate, boxing and a few other striking arts, and i have been punched in the streets by heavy guys. this guy hits with a very different sort of force. Hence the reason i train with him.
The big guy he is punching backwards with no effort weight 19 stone, is a white crane instructor and a 5th dan in Goju Ryu Karate. He can root himself (believe me) but still goes flying.
If something alex does doesnt work we just stand there. There is no hero worship (notice we call him alex - not master or teacher etc) or moving for the sake of it, just pain and hardwork.
