  • What to combine with?

I've been doing WingTzun for just a month now and I was reading things about cross-training. It sounds very cool but I think I will practice my kung-fu first and then start crossing cuz that would be really moronic. I live somewhere in the middle of nowhere here in belgium and the only martial arts they teach in this region are: judo, kung-fu, karate, jiu-jitsu and tai-chi. What would be the best combination?(not that I am planning to combine soon)

To be honest my best advice would be to combine WT with some diligent work outside the class until you really understand your WT. After a few years of hard work I would visit other WC instructors outside your lineage. Even seasoned WC folk are very surprised when they go on a quest for knowledge to find the ultimate WC. Don't underestimate the complexity and thoroughness of your art.

Down the road I would advise Kali/Escrima or even Silat. The eye/hand coordination with the FMA will complement your WC very nicely. Also Silat concepts marry very nicely with WC. Silat will give you some brutal limb destruction and some locks that WC doesn't have. Your WC hands, when developed, will allow you to grasp Kali & Silat a lot quicker than the average student starting from scratch.

The Joseph Simonet tapes show a nice marriage between Silat and WC. Also the Ting/Bozepte/Kernspect WT lineage utilizes Escrima with their WT. It's a natural combo that enhances each art.
