  • Any Xing Yi in London?

    Hello all,

I have been doing Tai Chi for several years and would like to study some Xing Yi. Can anyone recommend a good school/teacher in London?

    Cheers.

          Hi Chris,

I got in touch with Paul Whitrod, he still teaches Xing Yi, though his classes are only an hour long, twice a week, seems a bit short to me, though I guess home training is the core of practice anyway.

I also got this link from a friend on another forum:

I figure that the classes mentioned are no longer happening though, as I think you would have recommended them. Plus, I got some VCD's from your teacher not too long ago, I think he said he was teaching in Hong Kong or something like that. The VCD's were definitely good though, that’s what initially stirred my interest in Xing Yi. In the Tai Chi that I do/did (www.namwahpai.com) our training methods incorporate a lot of similar ideas that Alex was showing on the VCD's, ours is more linear, and striking oriented than most that I’ve seen n the UK.

It would be good if you's did a residential study program for Xing Yi, like the one you's do for 'Spectacles Cheng Ba Gua'. I think I would definitely give that a shot, don’t really have enough space to do Ba Gua circles at my place, have enough difficulty bumping in to walls with my Tai Chi.

But if you's do get around to doing a similar program for Xing Yi please let me know, or if its possible to arrange something else, I would be quite interested.

          Thanks again..

            ZillaBilla,

Yeh alex is in Hong Kong at the moment teaching Internal Arts at a Muay Thai school there.

I think those two classes with Paul Whitrod would definately be worth your time. He is a very skilled martial artist.

If you even pick up one thing in each lesson and just practice that untill you see him next then you should do well. He may also do private lessons.

One key thing about Xing Yi is that you train detail alot, you make every movement full of power, so training the little details you get in each class is very important.

a residential course may be something that i will do in the future. Keep an eye on www.ukbaguainstitute.com it will be changing quite alot over the next few weeks.

            happy training.

            Chris

                  Thanks Chris,

Though, I think my Xing Yi attempts will have to be put on hold for a while, too much work to do at the moment, though will definatelly give it a shot if I can find some free time.

                  Cheers.

I just started with Rose Li in Covent Garden. They teach Xing Yi and Tai Chi. Easy to get to as it's right in the centre of London. The Rose Li School: Ba Kua, Xing Yi, Tai Chi Classes in London | One to one and private tuition
