  • So what do you CMA guys think of this?

****Watch the video first so you can make your own conclusions****

It looked like a Kung Fu stance to me, so I thought I should post it here and see what you all think of it.

It looks like he just uses the stance to throw the guy off and then reverts to haymaker punchingwhen they actually get into it.

    What do you think?

wow, that was entertaining. I'd pay to see someone use such a traditional style when fighting.

looks like the guy has seen way too many kung fu movies.

Think he may have doneChoy Li Fut or something from his punching style, ...... But walking around like that ..... Jeez ..... what a nutsack!

Interesting how the other guy didnt know how to cross his guard though!!!

            cheers

                  Funny stuff

Have you ever noticed how no one in clips or movies ever seems to close in and trounce the guy in the awkward, supposedly traditional stance?

Why would you say that is?

I thnk that such a stance that the KF guy is keeping is only effective as long as he is pointing it directly at you, though, due to such a stance, which is very low, hard to maintain, and harder to move, one will tire faster than someone in a higher and more mobile stance. The positioning of the arms in such a stance is also very indicative of the proprietors intentions.

My plan for fighting someone in such a stance would be to first, if there was no rush, tire them out a bit by moving around them a few times, I would not feel vulnerable to attack from such a stance as you could easily see it coming. Then I would get around either side of the guy, though aim for the back, and from there he’s all yours, whether you want to strike or grapple. Alternatively, you could kick his leading leg to put him of balance, and follow up with a combination of strikes, this is probably what a MT person would do.

Anyone got any other plans or counters?

I would say that the realistic situation of the guy in the stance getting trounced is seldom depicted because it really isn't very exciting. You move in quick, kick his leg, grapple him throw him to the ground, kick him in the nuts or what have you and it doesn't "look like martial arts" So this removes the excitement from the whole spectacle.

I'd sweep his front leg. I'd also like to note that I don't believe that the low stances in some Kung Fu styles are directly applied like that. The low stances done in forms are to train your muscles isometrically so that they have a better ability when used normally. I think that the video was an inaccurate depiction of applying that whatever that low stance was. Just like some of the slow Tai Chi forms, they are practicing isometric ability. But in application it is supposed to be fast (That is partly trained by push hands).

                          what moves?give us a break...

I give him credit for moving forward in the fancy way that he did (gutsy)...he's very quite lucky that Franky doesn't know squat...on the contrary,he looked a little too cute posing like that...perhaps he should audition for Playboy for chics...
