  • Wooden dummy making

Anyone here know how to make the holes for the arms on a wooden dummy? Somehow, I can't figure out how to make square holes in a 9" thick log....

Anyone ever make a dummy in the past?

    Square holes

Find your angles for the arms, draw the square where the arm holse will go. Make an "X" in the center corner to corner. Drill out the center with the largest and longest drill bit you can get, without going outside of the square. Drill mutiple holes to leave the least amount of wood inside of the squares. Finally with a very sharp and LONG chisel and hammer, chip away the remaining wood to leave the square holes. The arms can be made from 2x4 blocks of hardwood with a bandsaw and some sanding. Good luck

Special drill bits arew available that will drill out your corners. Can't remember what they're called, though. Check out woodworking sites and the like.
