  • captain of crush challenge,

if anyone is up for the challenge would you read this link and if you have enough cash purchase a pair and take up the challenge?.

i am purchasing a pair, and i know its going to be tough, i am setting myself 2-3 years of chin na advanced training, and i think i will be able to close them. i think i know 1 or 2 people who could close it now maybe.

    the rules.

where to purchase if you dont know a store that has stock.

    records, who has closed them,

    peace.

Try www.pullumsports.com They're in this country, so shipping will be less. Mind you, the pound is strong against the dollar, so who knows?

As for closing number 4? I doubt very much if Chin Na will be of much help. To train for number 4 you need to buy them all, working up from the Trainer, to no.s 1,2 and then 3. As for all exercise, speficity is the key.

Because of the strength difference between each one you may need the ability to close one for about 20 times before you can move up to the next.

I hurt both my elbow joints quite badly by over training on these, so be careful. I was no where near number 4 and, as I remember, was closing the no. 1 about 12 reps.

But, getting back to specifity, I asked myself why I was doing it? My main interest is in getting better at fighting. What fighting move bears much resemblance to closing a gripper? It isn't like finger jabs, clothes grabbing, clawing, throat grabbing or even limb grabbing. So what's the point unless, of course, you just want to do it for the hell of it.

Good luck. But I seriously doubt you'll manage it. Its like saying you're going to train to be an Olympic medal winning swimmer or runner or whatever. If you haven't got the genes AND the years and years of training under your belt, you just ain't gonna be the world's best. And the closers of the no. 4? They are the worlds best.

hey thanks for that info man,

i assumed i would already be able to close 1,2,3 just have to work on 4, but who knows i havent grabbed hold of one yet, so i wont judge before i do it,
i have used other grips before and done lots of other grip training with simular tools, i dont think ive ever tried closing something as strong as these before, i will work up to number 4 eventualy, it will greatly improve grappling strength, also be very effective combined with my eagle claw methods.

i will check out those other grips now,

      peace.

What do you eman by "grappling strength?" Closing a gripper is not much like grabbing a gi or an arm......

As for assuming you will be able to close the number 3? Man, you're in for a rude awakening. The no. 2 is a major acheivment, and the number 3 escapes 99% of the population.

        But good luck!

ps - don't forget that the grippers do nothing whatsoever for the thumb. And, of course, the thumb is the most important digit of all, as it is the only one that moves in the other direction to all the others.

I am currently a 2 closer. By the way, most of the information posted on this thread so far is incorrect lol.

By the basic rules of strength science, gaining major endurance strength will not help much to increase absolute strength. So no, unless you want to take the very long route of working endurance 3+ closes on the 1 to close the 2, that is not a good method.

Use negatives and overcrushes among other things. Visit www.gripboard.com, it is the best board for grip on the net and many of the leading gripmasters in the world are registered there (the creator of the KTA system is the web master, the majority of the #4 closers are signed up, etc.).

To add, grippers do not correlate to other kinds of hand strength well. For martial arts training, grippers are a bad way to go (they focus on crush strength). For martial arts, finger tip strength, pinch strength, AND crush strength are important. I would focus on block training (learn more at the forum). Also, run a search on that forum for "martial arts" and you should come up with some informative threads.

I was talking about how the numbers correlate when I said "it will take about 20 reps to be able to close the next one up" etc. I never recommended that this was the way to train.

And saying "to add, grippers do not correlate to other kinds of hand strength well" doesn't add anything, because I already said it......Anyway.....

Another good method is to use a pack of cards. Hold the entire pack between the ends of the gripper for a timed hold. Then, over time, gradually reduce the amount of cards in the pack. When you get down to zero, you've closed the gripper.
