girl you might want to be a great pakua fighter. i haven't seen a lady master in that style. but i doubt that there is some kind of master who might teach you around there. if your desire is true and you're willing to learn whatever it takes, then you can try it. the training is hard to death but the wisdom and deadliness of the art is worth it. actually it is sexy for a lady to learn chinese martial arts.Comment

Back to the point of the post, at your age and your wish for a mixture of self defence and competition my list would go Judo/Tae Kwon Do/Karate/Thai, all will give you fitness and basic self defence abilities and depending upon the level of actual contact/fighting you wish; they vary from rough and tumble of Judo through the minimal contact and semi-contact to the full contact of Thai.
My other piece of advice would be to take a parent/guardian along when viewing a school and look at the students who are there training, do they look friendly and happy?
The atmosphere of a class can tell you alot about the instructor, you are there not just to learn and work hard but to enjoy yourself in a safe enviroment.
Keep looking around your area, your first club might not suit you perfectly but will make do until you find the one that is right for YOU.Comment

I have not said the arts i have done is the best or this arts is better then that art because that not the martial arts way you do not know the arts i am good at and never will because i do not big up my mouth BUT for a young girl wing chun or kung fu would be far better for her then you say wing chun is shit as you put it i could stop a fight without hitting with wing chun let them do the work but you don't understand it so don't knock it martial arts is not about fighting when you learn that and maybe we can chat get my ip your welcome to see good martial arts here we have some very good masters here and as for mauy thai i have trained the old ways and my fights as been done it thailand but i would not use it in street combat its sport in the ring works well if you train hard but the street in no sportComment
