I think constantly carrying a knife about with you if pointless, you might aswell not leave the house without body army or smoke grenades...

If everyone carried a knife then wouldn't the thugs start to carry guns instead? The idea of assulting with a knife is so that they have an advantage over their opponent.

Incase anybody hasn't noticed im fully against knifes.
Your ignorance of the blade and its concepts says you havent thought about self defense much...YOU are unprepared for a confrontation outside the ring or schoolyard....and your survival is dependant on your opponent being equally unprepared...

Ever heard the saying that "an armed society is a polite society"

Credit goes to Robert A. Heinlein for that particular quote. People tend to be a lot more easy going when they might have to back up their words with their life. Hence the formality and respect you may notice among the blade arts.. (artists)

      All the best.

Ignorance of the blade? Why do you think the blade was created, maintained and used? For the basic purpose of killing, how can you work towards peace when everyone carries a tool of disruption, massacre and war?
Not only am I offended that you willingly judge MY opinion as wrong but you also presume my being as unprepared.

What martial arts has taught me is that you AVOID confrontation not welcome it. The blade can never be used defensively.

Beleive it or not you are far more likely to use a knife when you carry one, that equals an increased chance of using it regrettably.

Besides... there aren't many people who can run as fast as me!

the knife is a TOOL 99% of the time even in the hand of a SF operator...it is a tool first and foremost...a weapon a very small percentage of the time...you have already proven your ignorance.

I have personally used a knife to AVERT violence on more occasions than i can count...when a couple of well wielded blades materialize into your hands the opponents usually decide easier prey is found elsewhere...my hobby used to be mugging muggers outside the gates of the bases i was stationed at. Every scumbag knows when the military gets paid and when drunken sailors will be staggering back to base with their paychecks in their pocket...Tanto1 and i both were stationed at a base where this was so bad they almost made the town off limits in 1981 (Millington TN)...i dont recommend it in todays world btw.

Yes ignorance... Sorry but the blade is PRIMARILY a tool. It is a perfect defensive weapon and has many other utilitarian uses in addition to defense. It's main function is CUTTING but it makes an o kay hammer, scraper and prybar too...

Ahhh, Boar beat me to it... Prey on the snakes? Who me?

                      Absolutely right!
Except for the fact that a blade is a very general term and i can describe anything from a pocket knife thats 2 inches. Or a Sword that is more than a few feet.
Now if you meant blade as in Huge ass sword. Then yes, thats no way for peace.
But like Tanto and boar said. Knife = Tool. In a bad situation, it could save your life.

If every move has a counter at every moment during combat, the fight will never end. So, no, there is always a point where one will triumph over the other. Though, to my ear, to talk in terms of moves and counter moves doesn't sound like fighting, but I respect that it does to some.

I think every attack has a counter, just that certain attacks will leave the defender in worse positions than others. bviously, the better the attck the greater the chance of it succeeding in striking and defeating the opponent.

Of course every move has a counter. If there was such a thing as an invincible technique, then we would all learn it and it would be all you need for fighting.

The closest you get is a technique for which no one has figured out the counter to at a given point in time.

... odd, I was just about to say the exact same thing.

I think the world would be much more peaceful if everyone had guns.
