I believe it to be zhaboa village style Taiji. it seems to incorporate Taiji, Hsin Yi and Baqua elements. Taiji is just an alternate spelling by the translators...We usually refer to it as TAIJI CHUAN just to try to spell it differently than the Tai chi that everyone from Redbook to god knows who teaches old people in parks

There are two systems for romanizing standard mandarin Chinese.
One system is called the pinyin system. You have to learn the system first to understand how to pronounce the romanization. For example the word tai ji is pronounced tie jee (tie as in neck tie). When you learn the system, you can pronounce anything with about 90% accuracy as a native speaker would. If you don't know the system, its impossible to pronounce
The other system is wade-giles. It tries to directly romanize chinese words into something that a western person can allmost pronounce. Wade-giles system would say tay ch'i - which is allmost pronouncable but could be mispronounced a number of ways.

To a certain extent, yes. But without the addition of the proper use of tone a native speaker might still not recognize what you are saying.
Just picking a nit.

For example if you're doing some kind of business in a mandarine speaking part of the world, fang(1) bian(4) is a lot different than fang(4) bian(4)....

Originally posted by HardballYes, I have heard about that and it is legendary. But tell me, are these tai chi practioners in Asia, really holding low stances or are they doing flowing, moving meditation in the form of tai chi katas. I may be confused but I don't recall seeing the low stances in tai chi forms that you are describing. Well, just in this months Issue of Inside Kung Fu magazine there is a big article of knee problems. It is called the Wu Shu Knee. It all stems from those unnatural low stances. You have to evolve and adapt. Combat is different now than it was when those stances were developed hundreds and hundreds of years ago.
taiji is about flowing movements and is fluid ever changing from slow and motionless, to extreamly fast and rapid, but the long horse stance holding is mainly a shaolin thing, all traditional chinese martial arts have stance holding and forms, taiji styles do have low stances to hold, taiji is rooted in bagua and bagua has very good low stance holding forms, hugging the tree is one i practice every single day at somepoint, its very good for rooting to the ground for good zhangzhuang power if i have pronounced it right.
here is a link for the fighting side of bagua. (baguazhang,
Chiflow.com is dedicated to the practice of Neijia (Internal) Kungfu, including Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Qigong, and Liangong. Focus areas include the Wu style of Ma Yueh Liang and Xingyi and Bagua of Jiang Rong Qiao.
peace.

Try this, stand in the middle let a baqua guy use tang ne bu stepping...notice that he CANNOT keep you from kicking him in the closest knee to you at will...if you know the step then you know when to time the kick...right in the middle of when they are "pushing the mud"
Several of my senior students studied in china asnd the states with very reputable masters...they all were astounded when i demonstrated the knee attacks.
i dont know why tang ne bu was added but it is not part of the original art nor its folk cousins.
i have researched Taiji and Baqua as deeply as i can and continue to do so...tang ne bu is a turd in the punch bowl...whether you want to blame it on CCMA as opposed to TCMA or whatever, it doesnt belong.

i dont realy know much about tang ni bu, but from what ive seen of it it looks like some wierd kind of eagles claw but without the power, with alot of open handed claw type form, its just what i have observed of it i might be completely wrong of its true nature, could you say why its useless though because im always curious why it was invented if its not of any use,
