  • Internal Arts Question

This is for Boar, Konghan or any others that have done internal style training.

Are their breathing, internal excercises that are beneficial in healing or revitalizing the body after hard sparring? Especially where there is heavy contact to the midsection?

If so, could you post a general description?

    Thanks guys.

WHHhAAaaa Give up ancient chinese secrets on healing after battle to MT heathens? I think not!! First of all if you knew jack shit about kung fu, you would know its so awesome you dont need to heal after battle, no mortal can ever lay hands upon you

just kidding of course ...I have some stuff around here somewhere that explains the meditations and breathing used in conjunction with hit pills taken pre battle. I will see what i can do about compiling some of it and posting anything appropriate for the net.

            Abdominal area.

            For abdominal area try this.

            (General posture)
Your feet should be shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent (so there no locks in joints), pelvis tucked under, spine str8t, shoulders relaxed, tongue on the roof of the mouth (that’s the place where soft tissue meets bone in the mouth).
            (Hands)
Your left palm goes inside your right; your right thumb goes between left palm and left thumb.

            Exercise!
            1) Place your hand in the above position bellow your belly button, bottom of dum tien.
            2) Breath in into your dum tien (not your ribcage, so your lungs expand to their full capacity) at the same time gently press with your hand on your stomach, start moving your hands to the top of the dum tien between button of ribcage and your belly button by making half circle of your stomach.
            3) Once you rich this position start exhaling and move your hands down to starting position once again doing half circle in process!

So basically you make half-circle (on right side) while breathing in and half circle on left side as you breath out.
This exercise massages your abdominal organs and strengthens them; it could be used before and after sparring.

            Hope this helps.

after hard sparring you basically wanna get the blood and circulation doing its thing in the area's damaged or bruised. for this ... a few ways that work when working with a partner:

Get your training partner to pull the flesh around the abdomen, pecks, back etc. Like pinching the flesh up firmly but not to cause excessive pain. When you pinch it up shake it a little and release. do this fairly quickly not a slow pull.

Slap the body firmly but again not to cause any pain, do this all over.

give your body to your partner and let them stretch out your joints and spine dynamically flowing between stretches. This will also give the partner chance to practice their locking !

                To revitalise the body :

try standing feet together. compress the body into the centre, squatt down slightly and feel that you are compressing everything down into your central channel. Be careful not to compress the heart or chest too much.

Then open everything in the body. so that you basically end up like you are standing in a cross possition, feet together arms straighht out to the sides. chest/ lungs fully open but back equally open so you are not arching the spine forward. Press up with the top of the head so that the spine is fully extended. keep the shoulders relaxed.

When doing this take your time maybe do 3 repetitions but take about 5 mins to complete them .... Breath softly and naturally ... dont screw with your breath.

                Anther method:

Arm swings. Just completely relax the shoulder and arm joints, stand up straight. swing the arms from side to side, letting them slap against the body. Be sure to turn from the torso, twisting the torso NOT rotating the hips. Hips stay fixed torso twists from this stable base causing the arms to swing out and around. Maybe 5 mins of this. Again breath naturally. (Rickson gracie uses this method as far as i know. Very good for opening the joints and energising the body)

hope it helps. But it is hard to explain over the net.

                Regards
                Chris

chris 200 pretty much nailed everything i would suggest except body tapping. this is done in a manner that every inch if skin is slapped/ stroked lightly 9 times in a downward moving pattern. Start with your hands above your head finish at your feet. I will try to shoot a quick time video and email it to you tom if you like

                    Stand on your head....

Inverted postures promote healing. Makes you more conscious of breath control too...

                        Mc... who?

No, afraid it's just me... If you get thrown down as much as a Judo player eventually you'll land very hard and it will cause some internal damage. If you've been kicked by a horse you might have an idea of what it feels like inside, you might even poop blood. Standing on your head just keeps your mind off the pain.

Or was there something about that position that promotes the circulation of Chi? I don't know but I felt better. Try it for 10 minutes at a time but NOT AFTER EATING! It's very meditative...
