and you are right there are many styles of kung fu
Quoting the fact that you 'did' this style, I am just wondering if you did quit or was it just bad wording?

Kung Fu is more than just self-defense. It is an experience of both physical and spiritual nature. Kung Fu teaches you to be a better person, etc. But Kung Fu is not the ultimate art. There is no ultimate art. Kung Fu can be a useful for fighting and it might not. Depending on how you train and how long you train and what you train. There is nothing wrong with this thread except the title: Kung fu is the ultimate art. There is no ultimate art.

Yes, i did do the kajukenpo style kung fu for a year, but eventually I had to quit, because I have been travelling over canada lately.
it may not be the "real" kung fu, and i am sure there has been stuff added on to it, but it was a really good place and i learned a lot, also the high ranking kung fu teacher i had talked to the other day did another style of kung fu "temple kung fu".
I can see your guys points about how kung fu nor anyother martial art is the ultimate art, but for me I think kung fu is.
I guess we all have different abilities and needs from the martial arts, and I guess that is why I choose kung fu, others may choose boxing, kickboxing, karate, muay thai, tae kwon do......etc..
thanks for the discussion guys

I checked out your website and to be honest it doesn't tell me a lot. It doesn't explain what sort of training they do, what techniques they focus on or what their philosophy is. Are they sport or self defence motivated? It doesn't explain who the instructor is, where he/she received their training or anything that might be remotely necessary if you were a beginner looking for a MA to study.
I will give them credit for opening their doors to other MA stylists and new ideas though, but it does make me wonder if their training may have been based on this "gather whatever they can" mentality rather than following a set principle.
I won't bag Kung Fu or your style, but I would have thought an MA website would have a little bit more information on it.

Actually, that website is the main page for the martial arts, but they have schools all over, the one I went to was in truro, nova scotia
the classes there were an hour and a half in length, the focus was self defense oriented and not for sport, it also had some philosophy in it, and the school also teached shoot wrestling also,
it was more of a modern kung fu than the old traditional styles you would think of, but the defense forms also included animals such as the tiger, crane, snake...etc..
it was actully really well rounded and would not mind going back another time to put more work into it

By philosophy I didn't mean a derivative of Socrates/Descartes/Confucious but rather a principle that the school follows be it based around linear attacks and defenses, circular movements, punch and kick combos, locking techniques etc etc. Inadvertantly though I think you answered this when you mentioned the animal forms.
If it (Your style of Kung Fu) works for you then that's all that matters.
