Because no one art is complete. If a martial artist can't admit that, they need to stop training.

Alan Orr uses other arts mainly to compete in tournaments. Nothing wrong with this and I commend him on his vision.

Even Kevin Chan who is a Brown Belt in Gracie BJJ admits that BJJ is a sport art. It works effectively in many situations and even self defemce scenarios but if you try and grapple someone in the middle of a pub fight you are sure to get your head kicked in by his mates

I agree. I have not done wing chun for as long as many people on here, but I have found it to be a very simple and efficient system. In one art that I do (naming no names), they teach in excess of 1000 structures. Wing chun has only around 4 main structures that you build on over time.

Wing chun has no big kicks, no wild punches, no fast forms and it is easy to understand. I agree that there are many bad teachers out there. I have been to martial art schools where they couldn't answer simple questions like 'what happens if a guy grabs you?' or 'what happens if you come across a martial artist of a different style?'

In London there are quite a few good wing chun guys - Alan Orr and Kevin Chan to name but two who teach wing chun realistically and have answers for students

The best way is to go to a school, see if you understand it and if not, change classes!

Mentioned in the other post, I have been doing Wing Chun for over 33 years and teaching professionally over 23, so I am more that slightly biased as to its effectiveness as opposed to Thai Bri hatred.

It is not an over complicated system, though some teach it that way, I maintain the simplicity so that it is just a method of becoming aware of the various body parts that produce energy and the direction that is can be applied.

The arms and legs can only move in certain ways and it is not rocket science to learn how to use them, but most get distracted with complex application and irrelevant philosophy and gobbledygook.

Isnt it time you should try it out and quit asking too many procrastinating questions about it?

Wing chun is a good art but there are too many shit teachers out there. If you want to learn it from a more authentic source, you're probably better off learning it from a student directly from yip man or one of his sons.This may not garuntee a good teacher but your chances that they will be a good teacher is greatly increased.Students of students of yipman tend to be too ambiguous in quality and their lineage is iffy, more often a diluted form of wing chun.

Wing chun is a fun art but it is over complicated. I believe that's what led Bruce Lee to develop JDK. Wing Chun is overly complicated. The most enjoyable thing about Wing Chun is the Wooden Dummy and the Chi Sao exercises. The vertical chain punches suck. The 3 forms of wing chun can be fun, that is if you like and believe in forms. Wing Chun, is like any other art- It's how you apply yourself.
