This has always been taught at my school, too. It was taught by Jimmy Woo as, "look nowhere, see everywhere." Generally, you "rest" your eyes around the solar plexus of an opponent, but don't stare. Instead, you allow your eyes to "unfocus," and thus you become almost like a motion detector. You can see a shoulder twitch before a punch, hips turn before a kick, or chest dip before a shoot. It's easy to practice, and works quite well.

Kind of like the other saying used for learning techniques and being able to execute parts of them in reality, "Fill your head with knowledge, but know nothing." Good stuff.

How does blindfolded training fit into this equation?

It doesn't...thats to build sensitivity and awareness, this is about learning to activate/use the reptilian brain to our advantage.

Different skill sets Bro, This is about not relying on logical thinking processes to react but instead getting the fight or flight reactions to respond...thats what the internal arts do, they seek to reprogram the reflex reactions to the ones best suited to your needs.

Seems to me, meditation would play a major role in this "Skill Set"

If you're talking about learning to use eagle vision, there isn't a meditation, just practice. You have to learn to not watch the opponent directly, you are using your ability to see but you only see movement, not details, once you get it right you respond and then realize thats your hand on the way back from hitting the target before your brain ever realizes what happened.

How is that different from perception?

Perception has been described as knowing something is there without really seeing it. Sort of like feeling your way. I could be going off topic but I thought it was relevant to what you were trying to describe.

This still requires logical thinking, and is slower than a reflexive response to a movement...this is ONE part of many internal "switches" used in the Internal arts.

We cross posted while I was editing the earlier post, did you see it?
