I have a good frined who travels to Phillipines alot as well as Thailand and he says the same thing about police and corruption over there.I have been to Cambodia and I think that is worse than Thailand as far as corruption is concerned.

I think muay thai is a very excellent art but it is not for old guys with bad knees like myself.I have in fact beaten muay thai guys in my younger days, but that doesn't mean much as I was always much bigger than them and they were not top-rated fighters.I have utmost respect for their training regimen, but I respect anyone who works and trains hard, regardless of what style it is.

I also like the Karate Kid quotation.

How does WC infighting work against the muaythai clinch?

It is all about the training methods used...

The truth is that the CMA stylists don't train in a realistic fashion.

If they adjust their training methods they will fight better.

            Wing Chun meets Muay Thai

Typically, it works a lot like getting kneed in the face a whole bunch of times, and then falling to the canvas.

              LMAO!!!

I was wondering on a serious note though, since WC is known for its infighting as well.

I used to study wing chun and I live in Thailand so see lots of thai boxing though I have never really studied it.From what I have seen I don't think WC is best thing against muay thai.I may be wrong but I think even though wc is good for infighting,I think WC guy might have trouble with MT clinch. However,I am no expert on either WC or MT so I could be wrong.

I think San Shou, Shuai Jiao works well against Muay Thai. Wing Chun will have a hard time against Muay Thai from anywhere beyond fist range. They will have a hard time against the clinch as well.

My one and only encounter against muay thai outside the ring I won by using a plain double-leg takedown and then a naked choke,so I agree with shuai jiao being good against MT,as I think any grappling arts, such as jiu jitsu, judo or freestyle wrestling would be effective. But MT is very dangerous so this is not easy to do.The guy I fought was a US army ranger and I think a good fighter who studied MTbut he was no MT champion and I still receiived a lot of pain from his knee strikes, and I was also bigger than him so I think if he was an MT champion I maybe would not have been successful.Still I believe any grappling arts have best chance against MT.

At kamon we work heavily on clinch work and specific defence against the MT clinch. A lot of it has to do with posture and stance and realising the dangers of the MT knees

My advice for those enthusists who are genuinely interested in how MT works in contrast to wing chun - go down to the Kamon Croydon class and ask the instructors there

Sifu Kevin Chan trains MT intensley and has incorperated a lot of wing chun defence to deal with the problems of clinching

Or some of our other schools should be able to help demo it

I would be interested to see the techniques in the Kamon Croydon class but I live in Thailand. Are there books or dvds which are available and give this information?Thank you

Ha! It would be a bit of a long trip!!
There aren't any books or DVDs on it. I'll try and get something videoed and put on youtube

I am sure Kamon is not the only WC school that works against clinches, and it doesn't involve special techniqes or magical abilities, just good body control

How did this become MT vs WC?????

As far as KF goes hakka styles been known to be just as brutal as MT

Any well trained CMA would work.

There was a succesful taiji school in thailand in the late 40s and early 50s run by Tung Hu Ling and he had to fight and win to have the school there.

But today I would say sanshou or possibly bajiquan and maybe xingyiquan would be your best bet. Most sanshou is sport like muay thai these days and baji and real xingyi tend to be rare and less watered down
