Police: Georgia man stalked local Facebook user, captured inside abandoned home

SHELBY - Cyberstalkers sometimes hide behind computer monitors or anonymous usernames. A Georgia man, who local police say obtained personal information on a Cleveland County woman through a social networking Web site, reportedly hid from police Sunday under insulation at an abandoned home.
Laurence Odell Barnett, of Marietta, Ga., recently made the trip to North Carolina to see a woman in her late 30s, according to Cleveland County Sheriff's Capt. Alan Norman.
But feelings weren't mutual between the two.
A Cleveland County Sheriff's Office K-9 apprehended Barnett, 40, after he sought concealment from authorities in an attic of a vacant Oak Grove Road home.
"Mr. Barnett had viewed a Facebook account of a female that lived here in Cleveland County and was able to retrieve enough information through the Internet on the victim to come here," Norman said. "He showed up in the county at a nearby location where she was at."
Law enforcement was immediately contacted, Norman said, but Barnett fled the scene.
Deputy Doug Bryson was the first to arrive at the abandoned home Barnett was believed to be hiding in. Given the situation, he called for backup.
Norman said Deputy Bryan Ledford arrived shortly after with his K-9 partner, Zane.
The dog reportedly found Barnett stashed away in the attic, hidden underneath insulation.
Zane made the apprehension, Norman said, which might have saved an officer from being injured in a confrontation.
Barnett was arrested and charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering, resist, delay or obstructing an officer and cyberstalking. He was denied bond.
Norman said the incident goes to show that online predators are in fact out there and a little caution can go a long way.
"I would urge individuals not to list any information that might give an individual an area where they may live," Norman said. "In today's times, it's fairly easy to narrow down where a person does reside with the tools and technology available to people such as Mr. Barnett."

Hey there another reason I don't want to give any more personal info on the net. There are some very troubled people on these sites. i have met some who threaten and say very horrible things, almost liable things legally against me.

Then, why is Dale Dugas not worried? He has pictures of himself, links to his studio, everything.
And as I said, I belong to another forum where not only do we know each other's real names, but we have MET in person at events.
A real martial arts sifu or sensei or teacher should have NO problem posting legitimate information.
Just don't come on these forums making outreageous and UNPROVEABLE statements, and then refuse to back them up.

Tell you what, KOTF....I have NO doubts that you are a martial artist. Nothing you have written makes me think there is a problem with you. I may not agree with you, but you are not the issue here.

I was just putting it out there. If I were in TC's position (granted he brought it on himself) I wouldn't want people to have any more info on me than they can already get.

I suggested a better alternative several times and it was ignored. I emailed video to Tant01 a while back. I suggest TC set it up with Tant and let him vet the guy.

Tant knows pretty much what to look for and he's a Mod. Other people from this forum have met me in person and trained with me.

I suggest you do the same Arieson. Send a pic to Tant he'll vet you and none of these clowns can argue with it.

Eye gouging, biting and ball grabbing
This one really pisses me off. It's not specific to anyone's style in fact it's pretty cave man, it's not rocket science and it's a lazy answer.
If you're mounted then whilst trying to grab the other guys balls you may find the reign of punches falling on your head quite disconcerting.
You can't reach the eyes from under the mount if the other guy has good posture and, even if you upset his base and you can reach his eyes, he can reach yours too.

Biting can work but the mount isn't a good example of when it can it can work and, furthermore like I said it's not due to any martial arts training, any fool can bite someone.

You really don't know what you are talking about here IT SEEMS. When grappler attacks a Kung Fu fighter, it is sort of like attacking a tiger with claws etc. What do you think will happen?

As soon as a grappler attacks the Kung Fu fighter and has his vital organs attacked, (and there are more tan just some basic techniques here) the grappler changes his position that he was in and it give the Kung Fu fighter a escape and moment to get up or attack another area. i am not saying that vital strikes are the only attack and defense. but they have very valuable effectiveness in actual combat. especially if the person being attacked was a woman being raped. I would not teach her to grapple the attacker, I would teach her how to escape as fast and effectively as possible. Anyone who would teach her otherwise, I would suspect that they could put her in danger, in my opinion.

And yes he can reach my eyes also, the fights usually end with the person who can attack the vitals and then finish with solid strikes or breaks. It is much different than the MMA sport arena rules, legally bound, gloves and no vital strike fights we see on TV so often.

Calm down TC I wasn't attacking you. It was more a general point about biting, gouging and ball grabbing, various people come out with this as if it nullifies the need to understand grappling. Some Gung Fu includes grappling, no?

First off, I don't train to attack Kung Fu fighters, or Karateka or even particularly other grapplers. I keep in mind the 'average street thug'. If you read my post on another thread I actually mentioned grappling with a KF guy who also trains BJJ and being quite impressed with his repertoire.

I also feel though, that people who attack BJJ often do so without ever having tried the art and therefore many of the arguments, including yours, lack sufficient understanding to make a reliable critique.

if the person being attacked was a woman being raped. I would not teach her to grapple the attacker, I would teach her how to escape as fast and effectively as possible.

I would also try and escape as fast as possible in a real situation, especially if the other guy was a steroid built lunatic. I feel that BJJ has some very simple yet elegant escape strategies to accomplish this. I'm not knocking what you do but there's never any harm in trying something different and seeing if you can incorporate it and use it. I learn other stuff any time I get the chance.

In KF you really aren't supposed to throw the first strike.

Shoalin attributes it to not being the aggressor.

Some argue it gives away your intentions to soon.

But the idea is to intercept and acquire proper range then strike out like a whip.

I didn't bring anything on, the people who falsely assumed things about me based on their own wrong reasoning and understanding have said many things of their own self. I have been honest , fair and stood firm in my convictions about Chines Kung Fu. I have share some techniques with others in hopes of mutual discussion and got rude horrible mean spirited comments from many. Yes, i did then rebuke some and this caused them to go into a raging huff of pride swelling out at the edges. Extreme arrogance and incredibly false assumptions and lies spewed out of them and it kept on coming. As if they were a bunch of starving animals just hoping to tear apart the next person that even for a second suggest that their beloved Ultimate fighter mindset was not possibly the ultimate. In a rush to judgement, hoping to visciously attack another human being and vent their frustrations about their lives at the newest supposed fake, they wrongly believe every lie that comes along and eagerly wait for more juicy gossip. Like a bunch of frantic giggling groupies at a rock concert they franticly rush into the sites and feast on the garbage that is dished out to them. It doesn't matter if the person they attack is honest and has proven many things about himself. They are too far gone for truth, all they want is the next lynching and dismiss even the thought that they may be totally wrong about their false assumptions and the lies they have believed. And so they go on, waiting, hoping, eagerly sitting at their computer table for a morsel of meat to chew on.

I was thinking more along the lines of the attacker having to deal with a tiger stylist who uses tiger claws and eagle claws etc and many other Chin na defenses with close quarter fighting. As well as many techniques developed to expose the vital areas and other breaking techniques.

I have to say that i couldnt stand learning Kung Fu... "Tiger claw" "Eagle Claw" etc etc, sounds like it is aimed at children... I thought MMA was suss with the "Mount Position" or "Reverse Mount" but clearly there is gayer alternatives out there.

How does this sound... i will fight any Kung Fu practitioner, no rules, no gloves, on the stret (the hard concrete) and someone can stop the fight when either of us tap? My background is MT and MMA
