  • ok fair enough but try the same thing with folded arms and not having them crossed. same effect but you have more of your reaction time left.

and with me with my hands up, it does depend on what i do with them, my demeanour the words and tone in my voice and the look in my eyes as to how the opponent feels. if done right most people have no idea what you are doing and think that you are just talking

I doubt it as I no longer train there and my initial repsonse to this thread was erroneous as I thought KOTF was doing Wing hun so I put down my lineage in that art.

I am in NO WAY a representative for ANY Wing Chun school

What about not uncrossing them at all?

Don't knock it until you try it. I found I can whip out hammerfists, backfists, knifehands, and even a 4 inch blade in both the standard and reverse grips just as fast as any hand position I've tried. The thing is it looks like your arms are tied up, it's a rather deceptive position.

Personally I really like the elbow work. I've found that even if you screw up there is a good chance you can catch their punches on your elbows (oh, so sorry!)

Why give your opponent such a massive advantage?

I want my arms free to cover as much range as possible for instance how are you gonna cover a jab followed with a shot at the floating ribs with your arms crossed.................your just not simple.

It only LOOKS like a "massive advantage". Can you say "weak counterpart position"?

It's an EXERCISE to develope attributes from a NON threatening "stance".

              To make idiots ask "WTF?"

For a guy who doesn't know anything you sure fill in the blanks well.

                • Not to mention, I'm not going to be just standing in front of the guy like Haji going

                  "Sim sim sala bim!!!"

The name of the video was "offline". The explanations were for getting offline and or smothering your opponents chance to attack.

But I don't expect much from a group that listens to "Eargrind" and thinks my wife is my daughter.

                          • Keep those videos coming! LOL at the clip of your wife and a bag of chips.

Just watched your video with the attacks and defense from crossed arms and I gotta say, before anybody disses it, he's showing a video on what you could do when you're either unprepared with your hands for an attack or need to take an unassuming pose.

Have you ever done any work from the hands together position? My only experience is just encounters at bars, and even then they're usually diffused with words or bouncers, but in those situations where someone is trying to escalate a fight I always find myself assuming a kind of position with my hands like I"m praying. I feel like that it's very un aggressive as far as body language goes and I could easily move for an attack as my hands are already up if the situation does escalate.

That is a more than valid position to take.

It allows you to use a "dive" or "spear" type move to come in the door with.

And could still easily conceal a small blade.

                              • sorry I really cannot see myself trying this in an actual combat situation, and KOTF you know what my background is and you know I must have seen some pretty hairy situations.

but if this has worked for you thats great but to me I like my teeth and would rather protect them
