You might want to consider going to a church or temple for spiritual purposes.

For fighting purposes, go to a gym.

You don't need to be a Chinese Taoist monk to practice kung fu, despite what you see on the silver screen.

Okay, somehow, that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I just want to learn a martial art, plain and simple? You've opened my mind.

Although what you said satisfies what I've stated earlier, It isn't as appealing. I hate church. Gym is okay.

I'm not a big fan of church either, though I'm trying to find one I like. There are other ways like doing research, reading books, or just talking to people on the subject of spirituality.

Well gee gosh, kingoftheforest, usually grown-up forums check IP adresses to make sure that doesn't happen! So now you might want to contribute instead of freak out because someone here has a lick of common sense and an open mind!

              ^^^This is what I'm talking about.^^^

It has nothing to do with the thread, it's not even humorous or amusing in any way. It's not informative. In fact, I don't think you even try. That's the sad part. You're like the fat lady who owns 20 cats and wears crocs with sweatpants.

I think you might want to find "more posts by kingoftheforest".

Before you go making off hand statements about things you obviously have no clue son.

I'm not wasting my time retyping my opinion for every troll, or troll buddy, or pro wretling myspace son of a troll.

I know a lot more than you think I do. Go do some research and formulate some opinions.

Because as far as I can see you have no idea wtf you're talking about, you just have opinions with no basis.

Research jr. It'll be good for you.

Actually most forums (99%) only require email address and username to be unique .....

Also ip address isn't hard to cover up with proxy.

In my experience modern Japanese arts have more focus on 'spiritual' developement than Chinese stuff. You know the whole 'Do' thing.

Man, kingoftheforest is really mean. Tokyokid have given good advice.

I'm not sure if Da Pope is right, but japanese martial arts does have a good spiritual development aspect such as Judo where the goal is to push your opponent when they are out of balance and to try and try again after getting throw about, to not give up.

So what do you guys mean by spiritual development, and how is this achieved through martial arts training?

There are plenty of medative techniques in various CMAs. Whether you class them as 'spiritual' I suppose is down to your own life view.

Alot of Doaism could easily be interpretted as athiestic as well as deeply 'spititual'. Same for Chen Buddist philosophies. As there is a huge body of martial arts from China that has been influenced by these two schools of thought, its not suprising that there is merging of the philosophy and the training.

From my experience of Wing Chun I would say that Sil Lim Tao certainly contains remainants of Chen Buddist mind body teachings.

There are also meditative forms, and forms that are supposed to promote physical health and a connection between the mind and body.

Theoretically they make you more aware of your body, it's natural cycles and how to maintain it better.

Yoga also is a type of meditative exercise as I understand. Or at least certain kinds.
