  • something to watch out for!!

Hey guys, here's a lesson I learned the hard way... Im currently training for a fight still about about three weeks away, I was working on fighting in the standup clinch with a partner who wears a carpel tunnel brace. the brace was old, and was wearing out on the bottom which i did not know has bars in it. He went shuck me by the head, and stuck the friggin bar in my eye, which busted all the blood vessels! as well as that whole side of my face is now black. Have em take em off, we were only going about 50%, train safe!

Ouch! So will you still be able to fight? What type of venue do you fight in?

Im scheduled to fight at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium NHB stickfight but the rules or stipulations of which are flexible, For instance the last time I fought there, we did two rounds nhb stick, and the last round straight nhb. And yeah im very lucky, the bar missed my eyeball, and hit the spot where the nerves and blood vessels intersect right underneath my eye.

That's lucky. Hope it heals well.
Hey can you tell me more about the nhb stickfighting. This is the second time I heard about it. Where can I find info about this. Thanx.

NHB stickfighting ala dogbrothers style is a breakaway from the traditional point style tourney with padded stick, and tons of gear. With no governing body at this point, the rules are kind of up to the participants. For me, i choose a helmet only. This is not an ego thing, but keeps me from forming bad habits, and maintaining a solid defense. Hits of all types are legal, but there has to be a spirit of comraderie at the bell because the amount of fighters out there is way too small to be damaging each other. After all, we are martial artists not thugs w/ clubs. The logisitics are three rounds, ea. with three minute durations, but this does vary. hitting, striking, kicking, clinch, and submissions are legal. Once again, this is a largely unregulated activity in it's burgeoning stages and I am only speaking here of the majority of ones I have been involoved with. There are many clubs out there right now, as FMA are starting to gain acceptance as not only a viable means of self defense (we knew that all along) but also gaining respect that they can grow, and represent in the ring as well. Is this the right direction to take?? there are disputes about that, but for me it is a better way to analyze my training than the padded stick, and full body suit.
