  • Hello all!

New member here. Glad to see an entire forum devoted to Philipino MA. I am fairly new to Philipion arts - been training about 6 months under Dan Medina. Pedoy style escrima, kali, arnis, kickboxing, etc.

    Great to be on board!

      Welcome Jagster.
Is Dan Medina related to "Boy" Medina (the ex Bakbakan guy who introduced MT to the Philippines)?

I am sorry to say that I do not know if they are related or not. Dan Medina is one of the regional chief in Pedoy style Derobia Escrima and he did train in New Mexico for some time. Medina trained under Grand Master Braulio Pedoy up until he died. I am honored to train under him.

We live on a Ameilia Island right outside of Jacksonville about 8 miles from the GA - FL line. He is impressive. I feel priviledged to train under him.

Out of curiosity...anyone benefited from Philipino arts on the street? I would like to hear your story if you have.

Many, many times, I wont give you the song and dance about me being the good guy, unfortunately, the group I ran also chose to carry guns, gangbang, and things like that but we all (hopefully) grow up. For me it came in the form of a daughter. I call her my life saver. Because the nature of Pinoy martial arts, does not carry the whole "do not use this outside the dojo" moral code such as the budo based systems, we used it for what it was for. Were we right to do so? no, but at least it provided experience, and enabled us to learn, sometimes PAINFUL lessons.

I was attacked a few times by blade yielding opponents and had to use fmas to defend myself..... fortunately I wasn't unarmed.
