    hello everyone,

i've been interested in purchasing a couple of action flex sticks to practice with... http://shop.store.yahoo.com/actionfl...seesarand.html

anyone have any thoughts, critiques or other alternate (cheaper but just as safe) suggestions to these? or even how to make my rattans into padded sticks?

    p's.

    Hello Fred,

The ActionFlex gear is pretty decent, when you want to train hard enough to let your opponent know they are being hit, and not having to wear any safety gear(if you choose). Don't neglect other aspects of your training, like "real" sticks, if you use this training aide!

Action Flex are an okay alternative to the real sticks although they are a bit whippy. Also since they are whippy, during the heat of an exchange sometimes you don't feel them when you get hit. The "whippyness" of the stick can also create timing issues when used all the time.

There is a product out there that is stiffer and a bit harder, so it feels more like a real stick. When you are hit with it, you know you were hit but it's still a heck of alot safer than real rattan sticks. You can learn more about "SMAK-Stiks" here:

They're pretty good, but as previously stated, a bit whippy. Especially when doing Witik..

I assume you're refering to actionflex since SMAK-Stiks aren't scheduled to be released until February 15th.
