Making your own escrima sticks?

Hi,

I've seen a little information around the web about making escrima sticks out of polymers - either Acetal, glass-filled Nylon or more exotic materials (kevlar). I'm wondering: have any of you tried it? Any advice on materials? Favorite suppliers?

I'm also curious about using those materials for larger weapons, jo length or longer. Anybody tried it?

rattan. keep the skin on. dried and fire hardened. at leats that's what my furniture maker tells me.

I haven't seen any material that beats working with rattan for cost , durability, or weight. It's easy to get and has 1000 uses
