  • Sword collection

Hi. I know many of the posters here already have their own but, I really want to have a collection of Filipino swords, as well as other ones I am fascinated about. Can anyone tell me the important legal issues I should know on collecting bladed weapons? I'm from New Jersey. Thanks for any help.

according to the local prosecuting attorney, a sword is the same as a tire iron. If you take a tire iron out and walk down the stret , somebody may feel threatened by it and you could be prosecuted as threat with a deadly weapon.
If the tire iron is in your trunk next to your spare tire, no problem. If you have a collection hanging on your basement wall with name tags and such, no problem, but walk down the street and some cop may fire first and ask questions later. Carrying a sword should be done in a case and out of reach if in a car.

I got stopped at the Canadian Border on my way to a seminar in Elliot Lake Ontario. When asked if I had any weapons, I said yes 8 swords and various stick weapons. They pulled me in numbered the weapons and copied my drivers license. I did my seminar and returned to the US and declared the weapons and they tore my van apart. I told them I took them to Canada for a seminar and they said- "The Canadians let you in with all those?" I said yes and they just shook their heads. I showed them my IKF card and my uniforms and stuff and they let me go. Now I have the SWAT team handle whenever my group goes to Canada.
