Progressive resistance
>>I think that you can liken drills to weight training.<<
Yep... I think that we should model the way we train our drills on the idea of progressive resistance (i.e.-weight training). We start off the drills with little resistance, as soon as we get our form down we increase the resistance. As we adapt, the trainer should make it a little harder for us to succeed.
I first saw the martial training/weight training analogy in Burton Richardson's column... props to Burton.
I think that as a trainer we should allow the trainee to only succeed about 75% of the time. Too easy and you don't grow from the drill, and too hard and the trainee grows frustrated.
