Some lasenggeros or drunkards tries to ask you to a drink and if you refuse they will be insulted and will try to kick your ass. Some cops here are also drunkards and they eventually shoot people. See how the justice works. You will be glad to ride a car home than walk.

Yeah but don't forget road rage incidents ... they can be quite serious as guns are quickly drawn.

You guys live in a rough neigborhood. Ever consider moving?
I work abroad but return whenever possible. The Philippines are a funny place, lots of opportunties, also good mas to learn... you never feel bored and living there keeps you sharp....

Yeah, road rage. Most of it happens when you don't know how to give and take on the roads. Filipino drivers especially bus drivers are assholes you have to keep an eye on the road. For me, I don't rushing while driving and I keep my patience long. Better not to start a fight but sometimes it is so hard to control. Defensive driving is all you need. Plus, it is better to drive an auto than a manual here. It will only make you more stress and tiring to drive a manual here considering all the traffic and jaywalkers.

I avoid to drive in Manila, too much stress because of the traffic...
I either borrow my gf's driver or take a cab. Yes bus drivers are often bad but cabbies can be real assholes too....one tried to take a stick to strike me once when I refused to pay and go out of the taxi because he changed his mind and didn't want to go anymore where I told him. They become really abusive in the evening at the malls and try to double or triple the price because many peoples are waiting. This drives me mad because I arrive late at training when I go to Binondo from Makati.

Do you have a licensed gun? Any weapons you brought for protection?

Yes I have firearms.... but seldom take them with me in Manila.
In Mindanao I usually carry firearms.

Sticks are ok, you can take them nearly anywhere in Manila if they are inside a bag but I like to carry knives, sometimes a zanzibar (small sword) if I have a bag, but this is annoying whenever I want to go inside malls or take the MRT because of the security guards.
Anyway I have a minipush knive that never gets detected....

                What about you?

Have 45 and 9mms, other stuff too.... Yeah it's ok in the car.... Balisong is nice but I don't like to worry about cutting myself when I use them...I prefer push knives, they are easy to conceal and hard to disarm... Kriss knives are nice too, they do lot of damage and there is the psychologycal effect, especially if they are a rusty.

No I'm not in Manila right now (Europe), I will probably return on the second week of September, can't wait to be back, I just hope there won't be typhoons when I will be there.

I used a one edge balisong. I sharpen it in the tip but not the edge. I used the edge for a long time for cutting things and ti was still good and sharp. What I really liek to have is the Lehe.
