  • Kali/Arnis in "Con Air"

Hey all...well due to the amount of time I have on my hands I decided to watch the movie "Con Air" starring Nicholas Cage (one of my fave movies). In the film, he plays a former US Army Ranger convicted of murder for protecting his wife during a drunken brawl. In the fight scenes, Cage appears to utilize sophisticated fighting techniques against his attackers, most notably the use of elbows, knees, and even several limb destructions. I recall one scene about an hour into the movie, where Cage is fighting 3 men in an airplane hanger...he takes out the guy in front of him (who had him held at gunpoint) with an elbow strike to the tricep area. It's rare to see some FMA's in action films nowadays...particularly empty hand FMA. Does anyone know which style was used in the fight sequences. Just curious thats all. Thanks.

Whoa! dont know how I missed that technique! And I'm usually on the lookout for things like that!! from what I understand about the fight scenes i Con AIr, Benny The Jet Urquidez was fight coordinator.

Speaking of "filipino techniques" in film, did anyone check out the Kina Mutai techique that Golum did on Sam the Hobbit in The Lord of The Rings The Two Towers?
It's this scene where Golum is trying to steal the ring from Frodo, and Sam grabs Golum from behind in a bear hug. Golum twists his body grabs sam by the hair, and bites into his shoulder! When I saw that, I said to myself, You GO GOLUM! Not a bad technique! Of course, Frodo brought all that to an end by putting a blade to Golum's throat! NOBODY argues with a blade man!
