Here is a good quick summary of the system,

“Dekiti Tirsia Siradas Kali System is an ancient, authentic and unadulterated Filipino martial arts indigenous to the island of Negros in the Visayan Region of the Philippines This fighting art is very combative with emphasis on stick and bladed weapons as well as empty hand techniques. It has been proven effective many times in actual combat particularly during World War II.

The name of the system came from three words from the Illongo dialect.

Dekiti translated into the Tagalog dialect is “Malapit” of “Dekit”. In English it means very close or near. Its emphasis is on close quarter fighting in which you cornered the opponent in an area, to close and devastate him.

Tirsia means “gua sa wala” or “sa tuo” or quartering in fighting , “pasulod”. It means to push the enemy to a corner or an area with three-corner side preventing him to escape or runaway from multiple deadly blows and thrustes.

Siradas means to stop your opponent from getting in or out , for the opponent not to able to penetrate in any angle of attack.

Dekiti Tirsia Siradas Kali is the family martial art system of the Tortal Clan. Its founder Supreme Master Balbino Tortal learned kali from his father Segundito Tortal and grandfather Norberto Tortal. The offical organization managing Dekiti Tirsia Siradas Kali is the Philippine Arnis (Kali) Escrima Martial Arts Federation International Incorporation. The son of Balbino Tortal, Grandmaster Jerson Tortal Sr., today heads the organization and together with his son, Master Jerson Tortal Jr” - Philippine Arnis (Kali) Escrima Martial Arts Federation International Inc.
      I hope that helps,
      Michael G Olive

I know in the past GT Tortal was working with the Philipine military, is this no longer the case? Do you know what branch of the military it was? Thanks for the replies. MAMike, I actually have acopy of the book, though some friends borrowed it as a reference for a documentry. Hopefully I'll get it back in the future, thanks for the offer

Grand Master Jerson Tortal still regularly teaches the Philippine military, ROTC, Philippine Army Counter Intelligence, and most recently the JUSMAG (Joint United States Military Assistance Group). Grand Master has also taught at several United States Police Academies. Even though his system is blade base, it can be easily adapted to the restrictive Law Enforcement environment here in the US.

          Respectfully,

            Thanks Michael,
How long have you been training with GT Tortal? What does ROTC stand for? Thanks again.

If memory serves it is Recruit Officer Training Class.

I met Grand Master in 2002 at a seminar. I trained with him extensively during his last US tour, or as Grand Master would put it “rigid training”.

I still have lots to learn, and I really enjoy the system.
