  • Are there any good books or video to learn Kali/Arnis

    Hey Everybody,

I'm just inquiring about any good Kali/Arnis books or DVD's anyone recommends to learn at home. Unfortunately with my hectic work travelling schedule and money it's hard for me to make it MT class but once a week! I know Tim Mousel teaches here in Houston but again with my situation it's hard to make class. So if anybody has any input I would greatly appreciate it!

What's your focus? Self defense, fitness, weapon tactics, full contact stickfighting, how to defend your self against a knife, cultural? It'll give us a sense of what to recomend to you.

      Hi Crucible,

Oh sorry i forgot to my reasons. Actually i would have to say all those reasons you stated. And something for me to practice with my younger brother. As far as cultural it would help me understand that part of my culture better. I hope this information helps everyone.

          Hey O,

I started Martial Arts at 12 taking Karate at the YMCA. From there i studied Chin Na with Jeff Bolt for close to 6mths. Being young he saw fit for me to study Traditional Wushu with Madam Wang Jurong. When i say "traditional wushu" it's not the stuff you see now with nothing but gymnastics mixed in. After that i studied Choy Lay Fut for about a year. I quit for some time and started again about 5yrs ago with my Shaolin teacher sifu Shi Xing Hao of the Shaolin Temple....Currently I'm studying Muay Thai with Kru Pong here in Houston. Sorry for going way into detail but i figured this would help get more of an understanding of my experience.

The Pekiti Tersia tapes whatshisname is selling on this thread below are good

Plus you can't get them anymore, PG Edgar Sulites tapes are excellent can be ordered off the Lameco website or pretty much any MA magazine. Dogbrother videos are also good and they show fight footage of all the techniques being applied. Might be too brutal if your not warned before hand. Plus they have a tape dedicated just to footage of various grandmasters, highly recommended. I've haven't seen any of krishna G.'s material but based on his reputation and who his instructors are its is worth looking into. Anyone seen Krishna's video's or DVD who good give us a review? There's probably other noteworthy resources, but those are the first one's that spring to mind.

If you are looking for an excellent introduction to FMA, check out www.atienzakali.com. Their first DVD is new on the market, and it contains amazing info. I'm sure you'll be pleased.
