  • Day of Champions Kali Tournament - Update

    Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give you a heads up on the early registration discount.

If you would like to register early for the tournament the deadline is Friday, October 16th for only $60 ($70 if you are on a team).

This will cover all divisions including Bladed Stick, Bladed Knife, Submission Stick, Submission Knife and the Open Weapons Divisions.

If you compete in all Divisions it gives you a chance to experience a minimum of 7 matches and that is if you don't advance in any!

Your fee also includes a free meal, t-shirt, grab bag of goodies and a certificate of participation.

This is a day for everyone. Whether you just want to come out and have fun, meet new people in the art, support the Filipino Arts or even get more experience with your skills, this day is for you.

We are also arranging lodging at our school which even has a shower. So if you are driving in from far or flying in just let us know and we will arrange transportation and lodging to help keep everyone's costs down.

Hope to see all of you there competing and if not definitely in audience cheering for everyone.

Great divisions, looks like lots of fun.
What kind of submissions are people able to pull off with that actionflex stick? I'm wondering if it has too much give to pull off stickgrappling or escrido manevers, or is more like standard BJJ, graeco-roman type submissions and the actionflex stick is just there to wack people with?

Do you use a actionflex dagger in the submission knife division? Just curious. Thanks!

      Great Questions...

You are right. The ActionFlex have a little bit too much give for the full on stick grappling; but occasionally the punyo and handle work really well for it

We have found most of the time the standard holds from Shooto and BBJ work well and most definitely the stick is used for the extra strikes.

It usually goes fast on the ground so there isn't a lot of time to set things up so many people also work lots of striking too.

As for the knife in the past we have used the Cold Steel Trainer design. It gives a little more of a sting on the end of it. We are working this time around with ActionFlex on the knife area so we shall see what it brings.

I really like their products. They take a serious beating! When Dan McAdams came in to do demos at the last tournament, he took one look at the sticks and said man, those are the most beat up I've ever seen our sticks. We sent them right back and under their warranty, got all brand new sticks in less than two weeks!

      Pretty awesome quality.

We are really excited about this tournaments Open Weapons Division too.

Do you know of anyone in your group who would like to come and compete.

Just let us know and we'll do what we can to accomodate.

      Thanks,

      Larry

Would love to come, if I lived in Texas I probably would
Are you using the Santoprene rubber blades on your website? Yah, I like those too, they do sting . I'd be interested in hearing your feedback afterwards, about whether of not the competitiors respect the blade with the actionflex knifes as much as the cold steel trainers. Have you looked into other stick alternatives for the submission stick division? Maybe something that still has some degree of pad but you could use as a lever?

By the way, do you feel the need to have competiters wear a neck guard with the cold steel trainers? just curious.

This is an awsome tournament. The organization is excellent, the fighters are given excellent goodie bags, they are also given a meal.

As far as the judging goes, the judges work just as hard as the fighters that are trainging. the judges put in long hours practicing so that the fighters get the best judging possible.

If you haven't attended on of Larry St. Clair's tournaments. You should come out and compete, or even just come and watch.

It is an awsome day of action.
