  • Kali/escrima teachers KC area?

Does anyone know of any Kali/Escrima teachers in the Kansas City Metro area? I have wrestled and boxed and I would really like to start in this area (weapons) of training.

Thanks Kev. I have heard of this guy. He is bringing in some brazilian jujitsu guy to do a seminar soon. I wouldn't have put the two together without your help. I asked a friend who knows of him and he says hes good standing and on the mat with fast hands. I am going to get his current phone # from him-the one you provided is doesn't work. He says he is and instructor under Dan Insanto. Anyone else know this guy?

            Try...

I would bet Harley (who posts on these forums)probably knows of him. They both had the late Terry Gibson as an instructor. Not sure if you would get a totally unbiased opinion though...

            Good luck!

He is my instructor in the KC area. I have been training with him since he had a big school on 87th street on the Kansas side. We did go through a spell where it was no holds barred BJJ training but there is a core group who also are training in the Kali/Jun Fan. on the weekends more as a club.

Braeson is currently getting situated to start a Kali club. He has switched jobs which allowed him to have more time. When he closed the main school he took about 10 of us with him to train in a backyard type setting and that is where we are now.

A word of warning he had a lot of people in the large school days who would come in with "ake me fight like Bruce Lee mentality" and they would leave after about a month. He is really interested in people who are dedicated and are willing to put in training time. I have been commuting from Lawrence to the new place in Raytown for over two years. The new place is in a gym at 87th and Raytown road and class is determined by his schedule.

I don't have a current number for him since he changed jobs. E-mail me and I will try to get you hooked up.

Braeson is the real deal. He quit law school and moved from KC to tulsa with his wife just to train at Gibson's Martial Arts. He was dedicated, loyal and talented. He is an Instructor under Guro Inosanto, the late Terry Gibson, and Marc McFann. he is also an instructor in Praying Mantis and i believe some other chinese system.
As for my being "biased" i would be the first to tell you if he sucked and he knows that, but in all honesty Braeson is as good as any Instructor to ever come out of Gibson's.
So that's my two cents worth but don't take my word for it, go meet him and see what you think for yourself, and tell him harley says "hi"

                    Hello Sir,
I don't recognize your nickname, do we know each other? No I have a school in Wichita Falls, TX.

I really couldn't do the things I wanted to in Tulsa because of Gibson's. They already have a full seminar schedule and I really wanted to branch out to some different areas.
check out our site if you get time.

                          Hello Sir,
Congratulations on the success of your school. I would suggest however that you try to work in conjunction with Gibson's instead of against. They can support your seminars, help refer students and provide training partners. Please keep me on your mailing list for upcoming events in tulsa. we bring about 15 - 20 students to tulsa twice a year for Guro Inosanto Seminars.
once again, good luck with your school.

Was just joking about being their competition. Thats not my gaol or desire. The guys from there that I have met have all been friendly individuals, and I hold no malice towards any school in Tulsa. One thing I learned is that if you are starting a business to try to hurt another business, you only hinder your own business. I would support thier seminars and hope they would support mine.

                            Peace and God Bless

                              Harley,

I have been going to Guro's seminars in Tulsa for about three years. I'm trying to place your face. I come in with Braeson and his group and try to wear the same clothing everytime to get face time in with Guro.

Which areas are you leaning toward now. I was really excited to learn the basic Kabri Kabrong Staff and LaCosta staff systems. Were you able to request any of the areas Guro covered and what are you hoping to request in the future?
